I'm not really a street rod guy, though I do own a few old cars. There was a car club called the "Downshifters" in my CT home town in the 60s, and I (and every other red-blooded local teenager) wanted to be like those guys. I guess I still envy the hotrod builders. Unfortunately, in 1967 (age 14) I had to satisfy myself with a home-made motorbike. I enjoy reading the postings here, especially the pictures of the old dirt oval tracks. When we were kids we used to go up to Danbury, CT, on Saturday nights, to watch the stock car races at the old fairgrounds. I know I've seen a few pictures of old familiar Danbury race cars posted on this site. Sorry for the long first post. I look forward to participating in the forums.
Several years ago I worked on the Toyo Tire plant a few miles south of Ranger . . . does that man in White still have that big collection of old cars on 411?

Welcome from the West Coast of Florida. I remember the Downshifters Car Club and I think it was out of Westport. The old Danbury track was also a favorite place on Satruday nights. Which town were you from? I still have many friends up in that area. Jimbo
I grew up in Westport, moved to Georgia when I was 18. Ever spend any time at the Dover drag strip in NY? Those guys still have reunions.
Hello from a former Downshifter. Was in from about 64 till the end in about 71. Check my bio for some pictures of the club car. Don
Took me a while to find this post. Back in 1969 I worked weekdays with a guy named Don Durner at the Savarese Sunoco station on the Post Road in Westport (I worked at the Savarese station in Saugatuck on weekends). As I remember, Don owned a Datsun "Fairlady". From the pictures in your Profile page, it looks like it may have been the same Don I knew back then. I graduated from Staples in 1970, moved south that summer and have been here ever since.
