I did a search but didn't see what I needed.

On my coupe I'd like to put a cool wheel on it. Up through what years ford, will a stock wheel fit?

Henry introduced the tapered and keyed steering shaft in the Model A's and continued to use it up thru the '48 p***enger car and '47 pickup. In '49, Ford p***enger car switched to the splined steering shaft. The top of the steering shaft housing's, however, came in several differient versions. The Model A had a cup with the spark and throttle levers. Then there was the dainty flared housing end which fit the three spoked wheels including the banjo style wheels of the late '30's. The column housing changed again to a cup with the introduction of the column shift in 1940 model...

Early A's had a co**** spline, then a large taper & key, then (30/31?) the smaller taper & key that was used up to 48 in the cars & I think into the 50's (not sure what year) in the pick ups.

  12. I guess that rules out the Willys, even the nice ones have a real truckish looking wheel.

I have a 48 Ford wheel (P***enger car) in my Model A coupe even though its giant I like it and use the stock drop. I have a 39 Banjo wheel in my truck.

As I recall, the Grant and similar steering wheel adapters say they fit 28-48 Ford.

The diameters of the Ford steering wheels used from 28-48 in p***enger cars and pickups didn't change much. The Wheels used on most big trucks were slightly larger.

    The breakdown on applications:
28-29 splined hub, P***, Comm, Trucks (early were red, later black)
29 keyed hub, P***, Comm, Trucks
30-31 keyed hub, P***, Comm, Trucks
    32 keyed hub, P***, Comm
    32-37 Truck, keyed hub, Trucks
    33-34 keyed hub, P***, Comm
    35-36 keyed hub, P***, Comm
    36 "Banjo", keyed hub, P***
37-39, keyed hub, Std. P***, 38-39 Comm, 122" Truck only
38-39, keyed hub, Trucks except 122"
    37-38 "Banjo", keyed hub, P***
    39 "Banjo", keyed hub, P***
(36-39"Banjo" or wire-spoked wheels had colored hubs and grips)
    40, keyed hub, Std. P***, Comm, 40-42 122" Truck
40, keyed hub, DeLuxe P***, wheel is Tutone with stainless bands
40-47, keyed hub, Comm, 122" Truck
40-47, keyed hub, Truck except 122"
41-48, keyed hub, P*** (several versions of the 41-48 wheels were made in various materials and colors, but for style, size & fit comparsions they are the same)

Sorry, I can't find my file on the diameters.

Does anyone know if there is another adapter opposite of the Speedway adapter referred to above? One that will adapt an old ford steering to the standard 3 bolt column like the new Ididit "Old School Straight Steering Column" and many others.

    Thanks Bill

You can bust off all the (plastic?) Off a model a wheel, leaving just the hub. Then mount any steering wheel you want to that. I did this with a cool wood steering wheel, don't know where it came from.
