I have been trying to buy this car for the past twenty years and it finally happened! I brought her home the week after Christmas but I have not had time to upload the photos so I figured it would be a waste of time posting anything. She's a '48 Chysler Windsor with a flathead six and fluid drive ******. This is only the second Mopar I have owned (the other was a '62 New Yorker) so I am virgin when it comes to these old post war Mopars. I joined the Yahoo group to learn more about these cars and that has been a big help. For the past 20+ years I have known this car as "Skull and Bones" due to the Skull 'n Bones painted on the driver door. I don't plan on doing anything to the body except repair the rust areas on the rockers and the trunk. I will have the interior redone after I fire the beast up and bring her back to life! Hopefully the engine will fire and all will be good with the ******, then replace the brakes get her licensed and start cruising!
I'm sure you'll get a lot of help here on the Chrysler, but it may be worth your time to check out the P15-D24 forum. It's devoted to Mopars of that era, mostly Plymouth and Dodge. But your Chrysler shares a lot of attributes that the Plymouth and Dodge vehicles do, and they are all related. Check it out. There's a search feature that will get you lots of answers to your questions, and you can always post a question if you can't find an answer. Lots of very knowledgeable folks on there that are generally very willing to help out. Good luck with the Chrysler! www.P15-D24.com
What he said.....lots of good knowledgeable guys there.....one fellow in Canada (rockwood) has a coupe like that. He's made it real respectable over the last few years. Bob
Never owned one...always wanted one. I'd prefer the bubble-**** 3 window but the club coupe is just fine...love the "juke-box" grilles. Those cars must weigh 4000 lbs.
Yeah, 3 windows are cool but I can't complain after 20years of waiting and wanting the car was given to me!!
FWIW: Just about anything other than the grill & some trim, interchanges w/Desoto. (Look for same sub-families). Years 46-48 on both. The New Yorkers have a lot that will swap w/the Windsor. Frames, front suspension, fenders, hood = no. Look for the missing window "winders". They are really cool - probably why they are missing. Also, a 3spOD was offered, & if you can find one, you'll like it a *lot* better than the Fluid Drive. Engines were very well put together, & strong. Not high rpm, but would take well to turbos, or a small supercharger. Glad to see you are saving this one. . Marcus...
