There is enough truth and wisdom in this line alone to end this thread.

If he's a big enough asshole to piss you off with his driving habits, there is a slim likelihood that you will have to worry about it for long. New drivers with big horsepower and little experience don't last long. His balls are bigger than his brains right now....and the fact is that you can't compete against that either. You probably have something to lose. All he has to lose is his daddy's car, which I'm guessing he could care less about.

Ask to see his pink slip next time he rolls by and then show him yours that doesn't have your dad's name on it.

  4. Simple!

You need pair of these, and a 300 shot of NOS.

O yes they are different, like life !

I believe that the RUF "Yellowbird" Porsche is currently for sale - 0-60 in a shade over 3 seconds....$245k, and you can quit worrying. If your only goal is to kick some snot-nosed kid's ass in a lame street race, perhaps you ought to re-examine your interests. When I'm out in a hot rod, and some dehorn twizzes the gas at a light and gives me a look that says "are you ready?", I just smile, give a school teacher shake of my head and let him do whatever it is that provides him with wet spots in his jeans. A true hotrodder doesn't have to do everything that the TITheads want to do. Don't concern yourself with his car - as stated a dozen times above....there's always someone faster - cars or guns. Relax and think about a set of Halibrands all around.

This kid probly doesn't care one bit about you racing him... in fact, I bet if it's a high school kid his mind is more on the XX Chromosome variety anyway...

175 shot is about as big as you want to try on a stock 3fitty. a cheap wet shot carb plate would take 3-4 hours to install, and would make it move out pretty hard.

hopefully you dont scatter the trans, or yard sale your ass-end.

if not, a chet herbert mechanical roller, with some 16* heads, swap the firing order, single plane of your choice, and a 650 w/ vacuum secondaries.
with a 175 shot on top of that, you can spin that to about 6500 on a stock bottom end before :nuke:, and should put 500 ish out.

I thought hot rodding was about trying to out-run the next guy? Just because he's got a new car I should wait at the light for him to go because I'm driving a hot rod?

Like they said, don't worry about it. Even if you did beat him,Daddy would buy him a Corvette. You built yours,he bought his, that puts you way ahead in my book. Take your time and do it right. His little horsey will be trash in a couple of months. Chill...

The only real solution is to call Larry Larson and make him an offer. Then you are pretty much a shoe in as king of the street. (You will however kill yourself)

Oh yea, I remember what it was like to be 20 or so, damn glad I lived through it and don't care anymore.

you better come packing more than a standard 350 to after a new 5.0. I am a chevy guy but those new Mustangs run hard. unless you plan to add about 150 hp you got problems. add a big nitrous kit and hope your motor stays together for the one or two times you run..

as for being louder. well that just screams POS that probably does not run real well. loud does not make it fast. we all know those cars in town that are loud but can not get out of their own way...

You may be over-thinking this ... the kid may not know or care about you and your car. Like the others have said: there will always be someone bigger, richer, faster, smarter, yadda, yadda, yadda.... It's a waste of your time, effort and money to be concerned about the neighborhood punk. Worry about something more important like keeping food on the table, a roof over your head and the well-being of your family.

You can never worry about the other guy because there will always be someone, somewhere who has something better than you. When we lived in California we used to go to Lake Perris every weekend. We had a little outboard runabout boat and would drool over all the ski boats with huge car motors in them. We thought those were the pinnacle of boating. One day we were picnicing on an island there with all these ski boats anchored around us and we hear this rumble coming. A guy pulled up in about a 30 foot offshore high performance boat and all the guys in their ski boats had the same looks on their faces we had when we looked at their boats. :D

Stuff like that puts it all into perspective, you have to be happy with what you have.

I have a nice sbc 388 cu in stroker (approx. 700hp) with a geared power glide out of my old race car that I'd let go for an exorbitant amount of money. Sure would surprise the hell out of the kid and his new mustang...

Plenty of good respones here from the guys.
I f you are really serious about whippin him , ONLY DO IT AT THE RACE TRACK.
Your only hope is to go there a few times before you race and learn how to cut a light .Tune your car at the same time .
Oh I sure wish I was young again!

I've seen some pretty dumb posts over the years, some of my own included. But this is up there with the best of them.

If this is even remotely serious, try taking this question over to the dogfight site.

No good honest traditional car has a real chance against a new Mustang backed by Pop's wallet unless you are competing for style and class. Stick to concentrating on that and you can beat a Mustang boy any day of the week.

Even if you beat him off the line, the first corner you come to he'll pass you, out-brake you, overtake you on the outside, and tromp off into the sunset with one arm out the window, air-con blowing, music playing, and he can do that all day every day without needing a tune up or rebuild. :D
