46 ford brake question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 55paneltrk, Jun 15, 2005.

  1. I just picked up a 46 ford business coupe Sat. I wasnt even sure if the motor would turn, but as we were pushing it off the flat bed I found it was in gear & free!!. A little gas and a fresh battery & it fired!...now I want to rebuild the master & wheel cylinders, does anyone know who stocks these parts? I'm ready to take this baby for a ride but the brakes are stuck. I can't wait to drive this thing. Thanks, Shaun.

Best bet is Mac's Antique Auto Parts...I have never had a problem with them.

  3. Do ya' have Advanced Auto Parts in your area? If so they should have what ya' need.

Go to their web site and look the stuff up so you're equiped with part #s before ya' go in the store. I've bought the stuff there and it came the next day with FREE delivery.

Caution: The part # for the brake hoses in their computer was wrong. It may have since been changed, if not, I have the correct #s. I had to cross reference through Wagner or Raybestos. Took another day for them to reorder and get the right stuff after I did it by part #.

NAPA has a listing for the master, but I don't see anything for the wheel cylinders.

DO NOT BUY WHEEL CYLINDERS FROM MAC'S

i think their quality of wheel cylinders went way down recently...everyone seems to have had success with them but i just got some "made in argentina" wheel cylinders and they didnt have close to the right parts inside and wouldnt hold the pressure of the fluid and resulted in eating all the paint off of my nice backing plates and soaking my brake shoes

plus initially when i got them one had a big crack in it...
the company was very nice in dealing with all these problems and took them back no questions asked...but make sure as to what your getting

look else where and make sure you get U.S.A. made wheel cylinders

    good luck

This is my first ford and I think I'm hooked already. I'm looking forward to the first cruise. Shaun.

Shaun - Had very good luck with Sacremento Vintage Ford parts. Super catelog & parts are fine. I also have a 46 business coupe. Good luck, Bill

Crap, I just got some and noticed that they were made in Argentina.

I guess that I'll find out.
