This is a message from a proud dad. These days, when I meet people, it seems the first things they ask are, "How's Bill? Is he still working for Roy Brizio? Does he have his own shop?" He's fine, and yes, and yes. As Bill puts it, he continues to work for Brizio's part-time every week, and for himself the rest of the time, the rest of the week. He's been building cars in his own shop, South City Rod & Custom, for nearly four years. He specializes in metalwork, including chopped tops, but he'll do everything from ch***iwork, to wiring, to finished body and paint. I've been taking some snapshots in his latest shop in South San Francisco over the past year.

I was hoping I could caption the photos, but I haven't figured that out yet. Following you'll see Ron Stanley's chopped, channeled, and sectioned '39 Ford getting ready for paint; Pat Farmer's '53 Chevy that Bill chopped 3-1/2" with a '52 rear window; Beppie Pistone's chopped '32 3-window that Bill did extensive metalwork on and is completing; and Nick Rogers' fabulous '51 Merc that someone else chopped, but Bill did most everything else to, inlcuding a complete Art Morrison ch***is and inset fender skirts.

Finally, you see David Pozzi's historic '41 Ford custom pickup progress from primer to beautiful candy red paint. This is Bill's latest complete project, which will be making its debut at the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona in a couple of weeks. If you're going, be sure to look for this fantastic custom truck. It's supposed to be in Bldg. 8. And its display will show its magazine history, going back to 1958. Check it out.

I wasn't able to fit in the shot of the Joe Perez-style 1-inch pleat interior in the '41 pickup. So here it is. See Hot Rod Yearbook No. 2 for some historic photos. But be sure to look for this pickup at the GNRS in a couple weeks.

I met Bill in 2010 at Roys, he was very modest. You should be proud of Bill he has accomplished a lot. I'm glad he's getting Beppie's deuce going in the right direction.
