I just swapped a '67 Mustang dual master cylinder into my '55 Fairlane and, as previously mentioned, the pushrod is not long engough. My '55 push rod was a smidge longer than the '67 one, so I am using it for the time being. There is alot of slack in the pedal, about 1/2". There is no danger of the pushrod falling out of the hole in the master, though. Anyway, where, besides a junkyard, could one go about getting another pushrod? Do parts stores just sell the push rod? I thought about using a box end wrench and cutting the open end off and cutting and grinding the handle until it was the right length and shape.

Yeah, make one...or modify an exisiting one. Just make sure it's not too long or else your pressure will hold up after the brakes are applied.

alot of the time you can adjust the push rod. sometimes its at the pedal. on yours im not sure. you can put blocks in the master cylinder its self but becareful that you dont get self appling brakes.

ffcobra.com is a Cobra kit car site. The guys over there are always dinking with Ford master cylinders and pushrods. I'd search there.

i think i have an extra long pushrod in my junk bin.
i'll go look for it if you can give me a measurement of what you need.
you could make an adjustable one,or i could make it for you on my lathe-george

Cool, thanks Yorg, I'll keep you in mind if my original plan goes south. I guess I'm going to try to find a cheapy forged box-end wrench and doctor it up on a bench grinder until the dimensions are similar. Unless I see something else at the hardware store that will work just as well.

    Thanks.

I figured you could just scavenge one, hell you might be able to get just the pushrod from the parts store in the section with all the random *** "help" parts....

I ALWAYS forget about the "help" section but for the most part, parts stores in up near me are very useless when you are dealing with old cars, and/or "custom applications." It seems whenever I ask for something, all they can tell me is ideas of places that MIGHT have it. I might check the help section, though.
