53 chevy: has a master cyl that may work, but id like to replace it for peace of mind.
-new one costs 200 bux so far as i can tell, dont remember where i looked, online...
-rebuild kit is nice and cheap
-jaker has put a fear in me, that i should hook up a double reservoir system for safety's sake, but it doesnt seem like there is a double that'll bolt in.
-so im thinking of making a bracket that'll allow the pivot points of the clutch and brake pedals to be the same, and hook up a new double res master to work with the pedals as they are.

if y'all are bored or just feel like providing some input, id like to know what the m***es say about this subject.
perhaps the single res system isnt so dangerous, fukk, they used em for years right? still do...i think there may actually have been an extra one in the ****load of parts that came with the car.

anyway...what are people's thoughts, if any?

I don't know how much things changed from '53 to '55, but I put a M/C from a '68 chevelle w/ manual drums on my '55 chevy (per the advice of some fellow HAMB'ers), and it was a direct bolt in.

It seems to work really well, and it was $15 with a $15 core charge at autozone...

It's difficult for the averago joe to do the dual reservoir style on a car that originally has the M/C sandwiched between the frame rails. I'd love to do it on my 53 Pontiac but I don't see how.

Your 53 Master Cylinder is $150 after the core refund from Kanter.

Keep your eye on eBay for the stock master. Theres two one there now for you car. One for a Powerglide and one for a manual trans BUT......... DO NOT BUY FROM THAT SELLER cl***icparts4u. Really read his feedback. His name is Frank Liaccono and he is a DEADBEAT !!!!!!!!! That fool has 53 Negative feedbacks and eBay still lets him sell. He tried scammin me out of $90 for my master cylinder but thank god while doing the transaction something made me write him extremely detailed emails recapping our previous conversations and saving the old emails. He had no defense when I disputed the charge and ultimately received a FULL REFUND through Paypal. He tried to string me out past the 30 day complaine deadline too. Funny how the fool is listed in the phonebook though........... If I'm ever n his neck of the woods.........

thanks...it's cool, i think ill just try my hand at fabrication and make the damn thing myself...cuz i def'y want a dual on there, and it's more fun making **** than buying it.

when i mentioned single or dual to a guy here at work he immediately said "get rid of the single"

most people are smarter than me, so im gonna take that advice...

RBs and others make bolt in pedal ***emblies, but of course they cost a couple hundred. But a welder costs more (if you don't already have one, that is). I don't shop with RBs anymore though. Got a real ***hole on the phone last time I ordered something from them (2 years and and several hundreds of dollars ago, if you're reading, RBs).

I used a non-power brake adaptor from them (can't find the part on their site at the moment) that allowed you to bolt in a mustang master for manual brakes inthe stock location. It was still 90 bucks, and only worked on Powerglide cars like mine was (because of the integral clutch pedal mount on the manual cars). It worked good, but when I put in a V8, I had to move it so the exhaust could go under the floor. Then I moved to a walton fabrication firewall mounted setup. It works great.

for those interested, as more of a "hey that might kind of a cool idea" kind of thing...we are going to leave the existing one in, so we have the pivot point for the clutch pedal in place without having to do anything...then we're going to raid some car in a junk yard for the brake pedal/master cylinder business.

my other thought was to leave the existing brake pedal in as well, and since there is so much meat to the swing arm, maybe buying a double reservoir master from autozone and welding on a piece to that arm that could push the piston in...mounting it near the existing master.

truth is, i just want to get this thing streetable by aug 1 so it doesnt have to sit in my buddy's driveway so long. so with shortcuts like this, hey, it wont be pretty, but ill be able to drive it. then as time and money allow, i can take it over there and finish this that or the other.

    thanks for the responses...

    hey forty3,

sheck out any of the street rod geek magazines for ideas on
fabin' up a duel reservoir set -up for the chebby. Some are
available for under the floor, under the dash and under the hood instal-
ation. I'm not sayin' buy any of that ugly cad plated anodized **** from
'um, just use the ideas to plan and buld your own.

    Good luck,

I used a early 80's cutl*** pedal and booster bolted to the firewall with a 68 chevelle master. split your lines front to rear and you are good to go.
