Has anyone ever used this kind of spyder cap? It shows a picture on the box of mounting them by 3 holes in the rim with self tapping screws. A friend knew I wanted spyder caps for a five and a half inch bolt pattern and brought me these by tonight. Has anyone used a different method of mounting these they'd like to share?
They were made for these wheels I believe: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52065 Motor Wheel Spyders. Think they were a muscle car wheel. You could adapt these, but could probably get the same results using some push-thru or bolt-on cheapo bullets, with less work. Search on Spider Caps in the title, there was something on this recently.
where on earth did he find those? unless you've got a set of those wheels, i don't think you can do much with 'em. unless...you can find a set of the cal-custom 'flat' axle covers, they're unilug, designed to fit on the rear wheels, and held on by the lugs, just like a spider cap. you could mount your new Spyder caps to those, and they're fairly common at swap meets.
Ha! That was gonna be my secret cheap spider cap solution! That was until Speedway started selling them for $140.
That IS my super cheap solution... Cal Custom flat axle covers cut with a hole saw for front clearance and some chrome bullets held on with a couple of small tack welds. I have been running those for the last few years - I finally broke down and bought a set of repops (got them cheap) and will be running those...
