Hey guys...a good friend of mine is wanting to use a late 40's frontend in a spring over fashion. Aftermarket springs are available for the custom length but he'd like to get just a main leaf made up locally and then use his additional leaves. Anyone have a setup they could measure for total length along the curve from eye to eye? We can then get the spring shop to arch the main leaf to get the correct ***embled width. thanks!
Gonna be three different lengths, considering '35-'36, '37-'41 and '42-'48 differences in perch spacing. Which axle is it? DD
42 to 48....but if you have access to all of them just post them all and maybe it will help a searcher in the future! thanks!
Hmmmm...Ok, but I'm hoping for the required length of the main leaf for a custom spring to fit! He's hoping to get the info tonight so he can get the main leaf made up tomorrow. Very little notice to figure it out the hard way unfortunately!!!
If it helps any, another tid-bit of info during my search revealed that POSIES makes a spring for this application. Couldn't hurt to call. Maybe they'll "share" the info. DD
Check out www.droppedaxles.com Nostalgia Sids- Posies springs- shows spring boss spacing, perch center spacing, then main leaf spacing. Also try www.eatonsprings.com This should help. Good luck! Bob
Well 1942-48 ford stock rear spring no. was 42-157. 2 1\4 wide 10 leafs 24'' by 24'' is how you do it eye to center bolt it uses a 1 1\8'' bushings one each end. Sorry late hope it helps.
