It all started several years ago, after buying a flathead powered front engine dragster. We tested the Fed, but no real power, so we soon started lokking for a blower setup. Soon we got a bargain on a GMC 4-71 stored in a bucket of diesel. Next up was a suitable injection unit. After a while a nice looking unit was detected on the bay. An old Hilborn 2-port, polished, and rebuilt condition, perfect! The seller was located in Australia, and he informed me that the unit came off one of "Terrible" Ted Gotelli's g***ers, cool Now, year affter, i thought i could try to back-track the history of it. And with nothing else to do this christmas, i sendt Hilborn an email, to see if they could give me some info. on it. Bingo. They found my 2 port in their archives. The order sheet says; - 4-71 GMC supercharger - 265 cu.in. Chevrolet - Date sold: 7-14-59 - Customer: Moon - Nozzles: 2- 33A L+R - Valve: # 25 - Pump: PG150 0-173 - Pressure: 100 @ 3000 - Rotation: ****wise (Potvin Drive) - Byp*** jets (gasoline) .125 *.116 - .67-30 .106 *Idle: .075 @ 500 Blower ratio 1:1 So now I have sent a new mail to ….!<O</O Let’s see if they have more history on the Hilborn!?<O</O Maybe someone might know where this was usedJ? ...................................... Taildragger&fenderless<O</O <O</O
Uh, hey, slayer....dude, did you notice that fenderless is in Norway? Personally, I think his English, his spelling, is quite a bit better than many who post here. How do you think you and I would do over there......in Norway?
I didn't notice any misspelling, but did note the poster was from Norway, I really enjoy reading posts from all over the world, the HAMB family is a big one. Now back to the Hilborn, are they all numbered, or were you able to get the info because the original owner was known? Bob
You might try http://www.gotellispeedshop.com/Home_Page.html. Check with Larry and see if he knows anything about your part.
Wise guy! or should i say ****wise? No hard feelings, i will try to abrove! ............................... Taildragger&fenderless
Im glad someone has a sence of humor here. My fault for leaving out the smilie . Good luck on your quest for information.
Uhh, you may want to check your spelling dude! http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sence Ouch, that hurt! All in jest. Cool history on the Hilborn!
Thanks Rich! I will contact Larrry to see if He has any record of it? Bob, all the Hilborns i have seen are numbered, so i just sendt Hilborn the number on mine, Vola, Moon pops up as the buyer in 1959! So i have sendt Moon a request on the above information, and we will see if they can give me something!? I don't know if they just ordered parts for the projects they where building in 1959, or the ordered and resold to others? Br Kjell ................................ Taildragger&fenderless
Yes Dale, this is the 2-port i'm gona run on the Flathead. Didn't The Moonbeam run a Potvin set-up in 1959!? Br Kjell .............................. Taildragger&fenderless
Kjell, that is absolutly cool wish I could find one at a good price. Trent that was prizeless!!!!!!!!! AFG.......
You would not belive where the injector was used! This is the message i got from MOON; That was probably for Fred L****ns streamliner with 180C.I.D. small block Chevy, but we dont have any do***ents to back it up. First i got a litle confused, the orderform said 265 cid, but Fred's stremliner had teh 180 cid!? He used half the V8, just running on 4 cylinders, aha! Could this be really it????? Br Kjell ..................................... Taildragger&fenderless
Intertesting history if it was used on one of the Moon LSR cars. Consdiering Dean Moon also sold parts its very possible it was for a customer. Ron
I got the link to MOON from Don, he even sendt me a copy of the original order Yes, it's possible that Dean sold the Hilborn to a customer. But as it was set-up for a Potvin, it's likely where used for LSR, not so meny came out for Dragrace!? The small displacement is a factor, who was running a 265 cid in 59-60? Br Kjell .............................. Taildragger&fenderless
I wonder if the current owner/restorer/caretaker of that car would be interested in it at all? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23802&highlight=roadster http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=83617&highlight=willie+dorsey Willie Dorsey = "L B" here on the HAMB. The guy apparently has serious p***ion for this stuff.
Thanks guys! I will try to contact LB, to see if he can contribute!? I'm not trying to sell it, fits really good on the "Killer", but i thought it would be cool to know where it has been used. Think if it's has been used by Fred, then used on one of ted Gotelli's cars, then going to Australia, ending up on a Flathead in Norway!? THAT'S HOT ROD HISTORY! Br Kjell .............................. Taildragger&fenderless Carl; If i spot one, I'll give you a holler!
Awesome. Hope you're able to figure out the history. But ultimately it's just a rad piece of speed equipment.
Here is a part and previous owner I tracked down via this crazy thing called the HAMB. So Fenderless, I KNOW how you feel about the history on that Hilborn. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=229598&highlight=steve&showall=1
Thank's Kevin Sendt a request to LB to see if he has any info. Awsome story Tman, hope mine turns out like yours!? The hat/air-inntake stands out as a very nice fabricated pice. A confirmation of the story would be a really nice birthday present! Br Kjell .............................. Taildragger&fenderless
No news yet, sorry!? Anyone has a suggestion on some potvin set-up that came out around 1959-1960? Br Kjell ............................... Taildragger&fenderless
