Safety is #1. Nothing wrong with modern brakes and suspension. I'm not as smart as some other fellas on here, but could you maybe spruce up the motor and attach it to a more modern trans?

Boy I thought this thread was dead...yes I could, I really don't want too, though. At the end of the day it's still going to be a way underpowered flathead. I could throw a ton of money at it for "vintage" speed equipment and have a temperamental underpowered engine. It's hot enough in Florida! (Let the Flathead rathe begin) I love the look of the truck (and my wife picked it out for herself) and want to make it a daily driver for her. To be realistic, drums brakes are not going to stop when even the cheapest little KIA with ABS stops short in front of her. For that matter, any car. I have other vehicles that have '60's equipment. The brakes are horrible and it is tiring to drive. I have to maintain enough distance in case one of those "new fangled ABS" cars or trucks stops short, which gives someone else enough room to scoot between me and the car in front of me. So I back up even more, and so on and so on.
My goal is to make driving the truck enjoyable. That is subjective. My idea of enjoyable is driving without worrying if something is going to break, did I bring parts, where am I going to find points, do you have a Stromberg rebuild kit, etc...
That means a car that handles (love straight axles, but they damn sure don't handle [bring on the straight axle rathe]), brakes (4 wheel ABS disc), radial tires and A/C and that evil EFI (no stumbles, bogs, hot start issues, cold start, etc...) all wrapped in a vintage package (que the carb, drum brake and bias tire rathe). Not a street rod, but a vintage package. I don't see a way to improve the styling or add any billet thingy to make it look better. They did a great job in '37.

The body and trim will be 100% stock and restored (don't care for patina, that means I could not afford or am too lazy to paint or rechrome something [bring on the patina rathe]). The chassis and drivetrain is stored to "preserve history" and allow me to put the body back on whenever I want a stock truck again.

I consider it to be the best of both worlds, but not a HAMB friendly build, so I won't post it here.

Again, I appreciate everyones input and suggestions.
