  3. I saw this Willys at an indoor car show in Ocean City, MD about 1970 or '71. It was displayed as a memorial to it's owner, with his crash helmet on a pedistal.

I love to watch history unfold here!

    One suggestion-

Please- put the Hilborn back on it & either learn how to tune it or find someone who knows how.

***Got off the phone last night with Gus Papas' brother Charles , you may have seen him post on the HAMB . I learned a lot about the car and the family and this puts a new wind in my sail more than ever to keep the car original . He is going to get with his (twin) brother and sister to try and put together pictures of the car and get the facts straight on the cars build and trail until it wound up with me . The car was built to the highest possible standard that one could buy in the day and though never ran in compe***ion is true survivor from the G***er days gone by .
I personally do not want to run the car or change anything on it so I will continue to try to find the right guy for the car .

Stay tuned for further updates .

  10. I thought I just saw this car on eBay yesterday. After a big price drop on the buy-it-now from 65-50 or something like that. Looks like a cool car. Put some plates on the dam thing and drive it :):D.

    answer all your Q's and C's ,
I never found a Willys in any airplane hangers ...........you ?
Yup the car is on e-bay and as soon as the auction ends , which I can't stop at this time , you will never see it listed again. Doubt that after the 6 days it has been there anyone is going to buy it now .
If you read the thread again you will see I have got the car running and have driven it around the area , but truly think it belongs on the track as that was what it was built for .

A correction to this story - Gus' mom (my Grandmother Josephine Pappas) sold the car in the mid 80's. I actually live in the house where it was built and kept. I bought the house from my Grandmother's estate when she p***ed in 2000. I wish I had found this thread sooner because I would live to bring the Golden Greek back home to this garage!

Correction to this info - The car in front John Koutsos was his own. Not the Golden Greek.

Here are a few more... notice that the picture of the frame on the trailer is in front of the house. I still have my uncle's helmet...

I almost forgot... I have the original registration plate for the car from when my uncle (Gus Pappas Jr.) bought it.... It is hard to see because my camera stinks, but here it is. Is is dated DEC 26, 1939.

    Thanks,
    Gus

    Kevin,
The original owner never raced the car. He p***ed before it was 100% completed and the car was completed by family and friends in his memory.

Dave , yes the car now belongs to someone who "will love it " the way it sits and not modify it or over restore it . I am putting together a 40 coupe with a blown hemi that I can beat the bag out of guilt free .

I knew a guy that owned this car, his name is Bill Carr Laurel Del. He sold it in 2007 maybe, I will see him @ Cambridge Md swap meet on the 28th. I remember seeing the Greek at his house.
