Any one have any experience using these? fit? quality? I have a set of roadster doors for a customer and i think these would be the best route instead of trying to save the rusty and dented orig skin.
good replacement for factory skin.might require some body work to get it straight and i like to weld and file the front and back top edge for a nice clean look.better than a patch panel in my opinion.
I built a whole body in an hour one time. I am also married to Morgan Fairchild.......yeah, that's the ticket ! Don
the outside of the skin could be made with a bead roller and some dies.the inside top flange would be difficult to recreate and the side curtain pocket hole would also be tough.@ around $80 a pop i think it's worth buying the real thing.i got mine through Tam's out of mass.he's a real good guy and he ships quick.
thanks onekoolcat! good info . i dont have a step die that deep that would make the reveal . and the side curtain circle would be really rough!!! i wish i could make em in 20 mins hell even 30 ! would like to hear from anyone else that used them as well!!!
I got some cheapo pos door skin with my roadster project that would have been easy to make how it was. I had to run it thru the shrinker on the top flange to put the correct arch in it and also made up a little die to make the curtain rod pocket. Wasn't too bad. Still would probably be easier to buy the Brookville ones, but I'm always flat broke so I used what I had.
@ $80 i would definitely buy!. 20 mins!? i think you had a skin full before you wrote that statement! my weekly metal work blog www.themetalsurgeon.com
All the Brookville sheet metal I have seen and some that i have purchased for my own use has been great ESPECIALLY for a hotrot project who the hell is gonna know? It's not like you're building a points car.
I have a skin and an inner door peeled, would you be interested in a photo of how well they go together? Doug.
fits real nice.i had to open the hinge pockets a little but thats easy with a dremel with a wiz wheel.i don't think anyone could tell the difference from stock.on the other hand i bought a complete brookville door for the pass. side and that took alot of work to fit up.i think if the inner door is good i'd try to reuse/save it vs. a total door.
thanks everyone for the replies looks like im def gonna skin the doors! gonna go pick a set up today actually if snyders has the in stock . post those pics pensive scribe !
Of course! The "secret" is the brake you use -- -a beer brake!. I'm using a conventional sheet metal brake. Did you buy the beer brake at Harbor Freight? Bob
Sure. Here they are. I think it's a match made in heaven, considering I haven't done any repair on the inner skin yet. This is the first time I tried them for fit, and am delighted. I should be able to use the new skin as a guide when I repair the old inner skin. Cool! thanks for asking me to do this. Now I've learned something. Doug. Edit: My doors are made in Canada even.
they are really nice! proof that they are really nice. picked em up ay snyders in ohio today and had to try the skin out as soon as i got to the shop and about 2 hours later its like a brand new door!!
