does that make sense? I'm wondering what years of GM Steering wheels will fit a late 70's GM tilt column? Anyone know?

How well do you want it to fit? do you want the horn to work and the turn signals to cancel?

They changed in 69, mostly. That's when the key moved to the column (trucks in 73, vans in the late 80s) and the column got bigger diameter, and the horn contact/cancelling cam design changed drastically.

  3. As far as shaft diameter and spline count, I think all GM wheels will fit from late fifties up through 90`s.

I would like the turn signal to cancel and the horn to work still...damn. The car is a custom and I had a grant laying around and put that on and I HATE it...I want to do a nice wheel, maybe even a white or a pale yellow wheel that would look good and still have all of the functional aspects of the modern column. Anyone have an suggestions or ideas for a wheel without spending a ton of cash?

Depends on the flavor of the car, you might find an old Superior wheel, or a modern repop, that fits on the Grant style 3 bolt adapter.

You should be able to make an earlier wheel fit, it could take some work to get the horn/cancelling working, but it should be possible. I've gone the other way, putting a 70s wheel on a 50s/60s column a few times, it's not real difficult. But the hub diameter probably not match real well. Although it depends what column you have.

Also if the later wheel looks out of place, the column probably does to...you could swap in an earlier column, perhaps from the mid 60s

Good point about the column...never really considered that. I'd just like a white, solid 3 spoke wheel...problem is I can only find wheels with the holes.

The Grant 3196 adapter fits 69-94. So those years are compatible splines anyway. Any help?

I may have found a steering wheel from a 60 Biscayne...anyone know if it will bolt right up still being able to cancel the turn signals and making the horn work on a late 70's GM tilit column?

You might want to contact Ididit or go to their website. They have a lot of good information and products that help match up steering wheels to different year steering columns.
