I have a collection of midget photos that were taken on April 11, 1948 at 5-H Ranch Speedway in Roscoe, Ca, that later became part of Burbank I think. The racing ***ociation is the SCMRA. The car numbers are: 25-37-51-55-56-61-79(I think). The 79 car might be Jerry Curry but I don't know who the others are. Anyone have a program from 1948?
I think you're correct on the no. 79 driver, Jerry Curry. Owned by Alex Pabst. There are some photos of this SCMRA in **** Wallen's Distant Thunder and The Mighty Midgets by Jack Fox. The only car and driver that I can identify is no. 55, Speed Boardman. Southern California Midget Racing ***ociation, also called Southern Crippled Men's Racing ***ociation because Curry had one leg and other drivers "with orthopedic or visual imperfections." A B cl*** circuit for cars that couldn't make the Blue or Red circuits of the URA.
April 48, I was just a 4 month old fetus. But I WAS in Indianapolis! And I had already been to the Speedrome, too. Gary
You might want to post these on ths" cagless midget thread," there are some pretty smart guys on there. These are really cool pictures
The area called "Rosco" is now Sun Valley, and you are right, it's out next to Burbank, just north of the airport
