How difficult would it be to slice and dice a station wagon roof? '62 Comet S/W roof, I'd want to make it shorter and narrower, and somehow attach the A and rear pillars to rectangular tubing to mount it.
Of course it's like a family reunion- it's all relative. But, is it straightforward? Nope, never done anything like this. But, I could slice and prepare it for welding and with a little practice I'm sure I can weld sheetmetal.
There's a roof at the junkyard and a goofy homebuilt project in the garage. The goofy project will be shorter and narrower than a wagon. I'm starting with doors and want to make a tiny panel, as in truck. The current plan is rectangular tubing for door jambs and the firewall perimeter where the doors will mount. So, after slicing and dicing I'd have to be able to mount the roof to the "car".
I'm thinking the gl*** is going to be a nightmare ... guess you could use plexi/lexan if this is just a toy/parade thing (read that "not street driven"). As for the "slicing and dicing" ... pretty much up to you to determine whether or not you are capable. If its just a s****yard roof ... have at it ... then you'll know ... post pics, then we'll know.
With the name "lethargic" you might not have the energy to finish it . With my name (borntoloze) you definitely won't want me to try it either .
Street. Lexan or similar. Yep, I wish I would've asked how much the roof would've cost me at the half price sale and tried hack sawing it off.
