I have an oil fill tube in the front of my SBC intake manifold- but the engine vibrations cause the cap to pop out and land in the street. This is what it looks like. Any ideas on how to keep the cap stuck in the tube, but without risking dropping something into the oil gallerys???
I put mine on right after I painted my valve cover, made it hard as fuck to get it off. I had to use channel locks.
mine comes up but doesnt fall out thanks to some bending of the tabs. youll have to play with em to get them to work right but thats about all you can do.
had that happen on my 57 chev when i'd wind it out real high,i just bent the tabs out, so it fit tighter, solved the problem.
I have the same one in my 33.. I just bent tabs wayyy out then forced it on the tube. It hasn't come loose yet, and it's been driven an long trips, around dirt tracks "showdown" etc..
Make sure the tabs are centered in that slot that holds them in. If it's not centered it wont fit correctly and will pop out. If that still doesnt help bend the tabs out a little like everyone else suggested.
I have the same cap. Mine jumps out even when the engin is off. I bent the dam thing so much the spring steel clip broke. I think I will poprivet a rubber gromet in place of the clip. Pogo
I hate it when that happens. Try everyone's suggestions and if it still comes off try JB weld or a spot of braze. Frank
i had a push in cap like this and i kept shooting them out on the freeway or when i passed somebody... im not sure why. i had one of the ones you showed in the other valvecover
Got a shitty one like that here on my desk at work. Mine in the 348 fell off on the highway at oiled-down my windshield. Try this, GATES PN/31061. It worked for me and is a snug fit on my oil fill tube.
looks like you have one of the ones made in china.the tabs that hold it in arn't made from spring steel,so when you bend them they just go back to the way they were when you shove it in. i had the same problem with mine,so i machined a new filler tube with threads inside and welded a threaded bung into the cap then screwed them togther, problem solved. if that is not possiable, find an old cap from chevyand have it chromed. if that works, take your old crappy chineese cap and throw it through the window of the nearest Autozone.tell them i sent ya. -danny
