What about thier not being a Ford company --they are GM and ford people need to spend an additional $150.00 for a kit to use their harness in ford vehicles

I'm seeking ; replies/comments/ what experience have you had with this product please

From my experience I'll call ******** on that one. One of the priciples of the company used to design electrical for GM but we've used their kits on everthing and they work equally well on all. Thier quality is A1 also.

  5. Call them. Number is listed on their web site. Get your questions written down/thought out and call them direct. That way, you dont have to rely on "He said, she said."

I already called American Auto Wire - that is why i posted this to find out what others did with their shoebox/SBF swap

    FYI

American Auto wire were the people who told me they were GM company and that a n "extra" $150.00 is needed to by their special kit for Ford application

That is reason i make this post - to find out what others did who are in my situation.

I have the American Auto wire GM kit and I have already installed the fuse panel and run a few of the wires in my Ford powered 1954 wagon,,there are a few differences but the main difference is the connection for the GM columns,

I the past when using there kits I have cut the wires from the factory type column plug in on several cars that have the early Ford steering columns which is what I intend to do with the kit I have now.

I will however use a GM alternator but car doesn't car,,a little ingenuity can save you $150 bucks. HRP

If AAW actually told you they were a "GM Company", then perhaps you'd be better off with a reputable outfit that is NOT so negative (and pricey) for your application. There are several good firms offering wiring kits without a "brand penalty".

  9. x2 on that. Most of the time we end up having to cut and rewire the columns and various connections anyway for length/application. If you can work the internet to find ford wiring diagrams for columns and alt, dist, etc.. depending on what setup you are using, a GM harness should be fine.

They mentioned their additional ($150) ford kit needed due to -starter,alternator...

I will be using stock 50 ford column and dash mount ignition vs gm steering column

Check out pro-touring.com, many have used their kits and speak highly of them, they're a board sponsor over there. Tech support is very good from the feedback Ive seen.
I plan to use them for my next harness (69 Camaro) not sure what their situation is for HAMB friendly vehicles.

It may have as much to do with the fact that they use GM color codes, as well as the differences in steering collumn hookup and starter/starter solenoid wiring. Ford color codes aren't the same, but its a moot point if you are rewiring the whole car anyway. All of it is easily overcome with anyones harness and a wiring diagram.

I have used the rebel kit in my 50 and works great, used a sbf with HEI and GM alt, ford ignition switch, the instructions have detailed diagrams for each so mixing and matching is no problem, i used the 9 + 3 kit. I have also used that same kit in a 54 Chevy pickup, worked very well there as well. Gage kit nice as well, although i dont like the plug set up to much. Rebel has nice products at a great price and you support the HAMB/ get a HAMB discount.

    Another question guys: Comparing $$$$

What about Rebel - I know people say this is good company to go with from posts on this site WHAT "extra" is needed after the initial 20 circuit/ $200.00 Harness purchase???

    Switches ,connectors,grounds ,relays....

Would final cost actually end up being like $300.00 for complete system???

i didnt need even the 20 circuit one, the 9 + 3 has everything you need plus 3 extra circuits for power windows, elec fuel pump, elec fan, etc. I needed nothing else. PM me for more info about the rebel kit in a shoebox.

Hey--ckemp03, would it be cool if I put together a small list of questions about rewiring my shoebox. I've got a '50 deluxe and am going to go 12volt. I've found some decent, but fairly non-specific, info and could use a little confidence building advice. I don't think it's THAT difficult a project, but it doesn't mean I'm not a little intimidated...

Carl - just do what I've told you before & get a harness from CenTech Wiring . They make a great quality product easily equal to the AAW kits (I've installed a few of the AAW harnesses too) , and make it specific to what you need , like your Ford charging/starting system - just tell 'em what you need & it's done . I'll have to double-check with him , but I believe we put a K40 wiring harness in Craig's shoebox with a Ford running gear . Even better ... they're a local (to you & me) company , based out of Perkiomenville !

Give 'em a call & get your damn harness & start running wires !!
