I was wondering what interchanges with 40 ford rear brake wheel cylinders. Will a 46-68 wheel cylinder work? I cant find anyone that can get a 40 wheel cylinder locally. Is mail order my only choice? Just wondering what my choices are. jeff
'46-'48 wheel cylinders, front and rear will interchange with the '40. If I recollect properly, the front cylinders have a different size bore than the originals, giving you a little more braking power. Don't think there's any difference in the rears, however.
thanks, I will give them a call. Wish I had the time and money, would go there in person. That place sounds cool. jeff
Check out this site for auto parts, almost any year and the best prices around even if you include shipping. Purchased brake rotors for a 1988 IROC camaro to put on the rear of my 41 Ford and paid only $15 ea. new in a raybestos box, not some import. 2 rotors + shipping for $45. wanted that much locally for one. http://www.rockauto.com/ George
The early wheel cylinders have been unavailable for some time now. They are generally replaced in pairs by the '46-8 cylinders. You can still get early kits, if you have decent castings. That Rock Auto site is pretty slick--about ten times faster than NAPA's.
Hey just to p*** on more info. The 40 brake shoes are different than the 46-48 shoes. I knew that the early ones had an adjustable pivot , but I wasnt aware that the shoes that fit them were different. I was finding some good cores to get relined. I had to take apart a couple of brakes to get a pair. later, jeff
Rocky buys his from a NAPA down there. Wagner Part#left front F8264 right fr F8265 Left rear F25098 and RR F25099
