I know there was a similar thread a week or three ago, but I'm not finding it. Would vertical toeboards be a problem for the driver?
Depends on how your rod is set up, I'd think. As far as my 29 Model AA truck, I'm thinkin' that vertical toes would give me just a bit more room to move my pedals. On the other hand (um, the one that I think you're thinking about), it'll depend on how you set up your throttle, clutch, brake pedals, etc... I believe that all you're really working into (or out of) the equation is the original 45 degree angle of the original floorboards to your "new" vertical toes. It's all in how YOU make it work... Oh, good god, I hope that made the sense it did when I was visualizing my own own '29... Good Luck, Sarge!
Yeah, that's basically what I was thinking- the toeboards don't matter too much to the driver because of the pedals, and the pedals will probably be different.
Hey, just remember, vertical toeboards equal more room for YOUR Tootsies! You can make the rest of it work, bro...
I remember reading that one of the main reasons the toe boards were set at an angle was to help hot air from the radiator and engine compartment flow down and out under the car. Gary
When I drive my feet hardly ever touch the toeboard, so there's no ergonomic factor there. I prefer a dead pedal to the left of the clutch, but I don't have one in my DD or the Morris (yet). Angled toeboards might be more comfortable for the p***enger, though. It also depends on whether you've got pedestal or pendant pedals. I think pendant pedals would be able to make better use of a vertical toeboard. The other issue is how low you sit in the car. The lower you sit, the closer to vertical your shoe sole is likely to be.
On a factory Ford the toe boards are angled and directed to the pivot of the brake/clutch pedals. That allows the curved pedal arm extentions to p*** thru a small, easily sealed hole in the toeboard. If you run floor pedals with a vertical toeboard you will need to have a harder to seal slot of some sort to allow for pedal movement...depending of course on positioning and shape of the pedal. Hanging pedals...no real issue.
