A Sportsman Convertible Woodie,to be exact?

I'm working on a Roth/Mouse-type cartoon treatment.....blower.....but as far as an exact setup,I'm just plain out of ideas......

I'm using the body with wood panels, I just want to change the wheels and engine..... keep the stock grille.....that's about it.

Too much overtime in the last few weeks- any help is appreciated!

Ahhh, the coffee truck is here.....

    Woodies, I like those.........

Are you going with a big rake look or front end off the ground.

Being a woodie, you could go 60's/ealy 70's with two scoop (on an slight angle - caused by the twim blower set up) maybe on a 427 ford hemi motor (if you are going to show the engine).

For tires, since you are going drag car look, maybe the rear tires should stick out slightly (piecrust or old dragmaster slicks) on halibrands, for fronts, maybe spindle mount 10 spoke (drooped down below the car) or set to match the rear

Another idea would be to go with steelies and show the hubcaps/ dog dishes falling off, on whitewalls....

    Cant wait to see it...............

Who cares about what engine you're putting in it!
I hope you are having a "ROTHesque" beaver driving it!

My 2nd ride was a '48 fourdoor, 354 Hemi with a four barrel, '39 drivetrain (fllor shift) and the rear-end used the same rims as the guys in "dirt track" racing (big wide slicks). Could p*** everything 'cept the J-2 Oldsmobiles. The one that got around me, was a "woody" style J-2 WAGON ! ! Wait 'til you open the hood, and all you see, is CHROME VALVE COVERS, from one side of the engine compartment, to the other. Many more leafs for the front spring, also ! jhs40

  9. They tell me that a Fordillac is pretty Trad. Find yourself an old 331 or some such. At least when you open the hood it'll look as cool as with the hood closed.

    How about;
A big-*** Lincoln Y block with the four pointed, elongated star on the valvecovers, with the GMC blower, in line injectors anda Greer-Black-& Prudhome dragster style scoop. Or a Latham Blower with four 53 Corvette side draft carbs.
Motor jacked up at least as high as the Poncho in the Purple People Eater too!  :D

    Boones,
I'm roughing the body out this afternoon....and I'm right in the middle as to either the big rake or front end high up off the ground....I'm thinking if it ends up with a rake,I'll do the steelies, but if it is in motion I'll definitely go with the spokes and slicks....the joke here is the old "monster trapped on a tiny island, just bigger than the car,in motion...."
This piece and some shirts will be at the Woodies on the Wharf in Santa Cruz this year....my buddy ( who attends every year) loves the Roth/Newt style and has a habit of ******* off the restoration crowd.....can you imagine what they would say about a defiled Sportsman Woodie, even a cartoon?
I wish we could be there....

Engine will be shown- no doubt.

    More coffee......

Damn I'm glad to be a member of such a board. Not one mention of the belly ****on motor (shhhhhh). Put in a big block, maybe a 440 with a torque flite trans to a nine inch rear. Dump the front and use steelies, americans or hals. No other changes...

Have to go with choprods on this one, they now well everything to build a brand new 427 SOHC motor, and finding a blower for it would make it one of the most hanous rides around.

But on the practical side, you could just go with a 428 with a hot street cam and a Paxton superchager.

If I'm getting this right you're interested in only changing the engine and wheels? Does this mean whatever you put in is going to be hooked to the stock trans? If this is the case then I'd go for a Thunderbird Y-block. They fit nice, run strong, and they are sweet looking especially when equipped with the cast aluminum T-bird valvecovers and a brace of carburators. Put a Ford in your Ford and be different!
