Have you had this issue? New Auto Meter Gauges -- Back of gauges is large opening for "Twist On" Bulb ***embly to be inserted and secured in with a slight twist. BUT- the bulb ***embly does not fit in the opening and allow for an easy twist to lock it in --- it's base hits one of the ground posts slightly ** Do I try to force it ???? I called Auto Meter and will send them a pic ---- what is your experience??
Summit Racing just sent me a Auto Meter 2 1/16" Transmission Temp Gauge #4357. I just opened the box for the first time. You are absolutely right. The bulb housing bumps into the ground terminal. It won't turn enough to stay secured. I tried to force it to no avail. UGH! Please post what you find out or PM me. Another hickup.
It's the principle! Buy something new you shouldn't have to modify it to get it to work. BTW, the bulb housing is vinyl. So a #11 exacto blade may fix it. Still. On another note, I have AutoMeter 2 5/8" gauges in my other car. And I have to flick the gl*** on the Volt gauge to get it to register, after starting the motor. Use to see that alot in the old movies where the pilot taps the gl*** on the gauges to get accurate readings. Maybe it is back to Stewart Warner time.
No. I thought so to a minute ago. But went to Summit's catalog and it says "Made In the USA" for AutoMeter gauges.
If we are to use a tool to force lock the bulb in - THEN we are to use a tool when lying on our backs to change the bulb when it is installed in the dash ?? It should be an easy just put hand up under dash an unscrew the bulb - why a tool to force it out.
If they are NEW, I'd refer it to Summit or Autometer to make it right. You should not have to modify it to get it to work (or possibly destroy it in trying). Seems from the replies there is more than 1 having this issue. Contact Summit, return them and get Dolphins.
Kinda flies in the face of "Buy American" mentality. I try to, but then things like this come up and I wonder why?
