The problem with chopping the five windows is that the quarter window gl*** is tempered and you can't cut it (at least with normal methods) Some guys have made plexigl*** windows or slid the openings down but they never seem to look as good as a three window when chopped.

10-4 on the 5 window trucks. The only advice I can give (since I haven't cut mine yet) is don't go too far. A hop should be subtle and improve the profile. It's not one of those "some's good so more is better" gigs. Too much looks like it fell of the top of car hauler. Here's a really *****in chop...

Did brother-in-law's a long time ago. We layed (laid) back the front windshield post and flaired out the part attached to the roof. Made plexigl*** quarter windows. Truck was later featured in Truckin'. The trucks you have shown so far I believe the roofs were widened and lengthened (very hard).

I chopped my 5-window and made lexan corner windows that I heated in the oven on top of the originals to get the right shape. Dont get them to hot thought, 350 should be adequate. Just make a template out of heavy paper of the new opening and transfer to the lexan after it is cooled. Use a body saw to cut out.

I did the same for my 51 vic rear corner gl***.

You will have to split the roof side to side and then fill the 3 inch or so gap. The rest is pretty easy. Just have to be sure and make relief cuts at posts and rear pillar

I think they repop the corners in laminated which can be cut Down.

I haven't seen anything on those but that would be the way to go. The biggest problem is that it is just harder than hell to get the quarter windows to look right on a chopped truck no matter what you do with them. They look great on a stock cab and serve a real purpose but the chopped five windows I have seen always look like they have something that isn't quite right.

This is about as good as it gets on a five window.

It might look a bit better if the rear window had been left larger with the bottom dropped down even with the style lined like the quarter windows were.

having a 2nd roof really helps. and as far as the corner gl*** goes, they do make laminated gl*** now. ill try and get some pics up of mine if i can find em.

  16. I have a cut by cut on my web site. My chop is the perfect example (of not planning ahead) I think the 54 with one piece windshield has less options to make it work. I did a 4 way (cutting the top in 4 pieces) and lining up each corner then adding a fill strip. mine was about 1 1/2 inches to the width and 2 inches to the length. it helps if cut the center of the roof out first then the fill strips are only 10-12 inches and then welding the roof center on the curved perimeter leaves alot less distortion than 4 welds clear across the center of the roof. better to have a second roof section that is bigger than the first one you have cut out. My truck the center is off the back half of a 55 chev 4 door roof.
After I did my chop I cut the whole back off behind the doors and added 10 inches (before I added the roof center). next was filling the corner windows.

the one thing that makes my truck (in my eyes) is taking 5 1/2 inches out of the hood and cowl. the hoods are a little tall stock and stick out like a sore thumb the more you chop the roof.

I only cut the fire wall and back to the center of the cowl then straight down to the bottom of the cab left the floor in tack cut the cab loose made 5 1/2 inch cut out of the fire wall and dropped the whole cab down to line the fire wall tack a few places. now the bottom of my stock doors line up with the bottom of my stock fenders

If I were to chop a 5 window 3 or 4 inches. I would get the laminated corner windows cut about 2-2 1/2 inches then line the center window the same height and widen to about 1 inch from the corner windows (like a 57 olds/buick) for a wrap around look
then take 3 inches out of the hood [/I

one of these was my first chop. jacked it up royally. took way too much out. ive fixed multiple chops on these since and the big one in my eyes is to not lean the A pillar. in my opinion it makes the roof looking short compared to the rest of the truck. if you have any questions on these, pm me. also that tan one would have looked better if they had made the back window the same size as the corner gl***. also, try and track down a set of dodge corner windows. heard that works great for a 3' chop or so. i personally prefer the 3 window when chopped. they were the cl***ier model...
