I am about ready to chop my sedan and want to see some pics or suggestions on how much to chop it. Sedans, 5 windows, fordors, or pickups it don't matter. It is sitting on a custom frame that is step notched. so the rear tire sits almost even with the body line. I am 6'2" so a big chop won't work, I was thinkin about 5 1/2 inches would be just right. Any help???? Sprout
This is the '29 Ford Tudor I chopped ten years ago. I don't like the mail slot rear windows, top lost 4 1/2 inches and I dropped the rear window to make it functional while backing up. I primed and painted the inside before I installed the wood kit..........Just looked at it again the vertical seams were welded for a smooth '32 look.
I chopped my fordor 6". it'll be channeled 3". I'm only 5'7", and I'll still hafta slant the seats back to fit. I guess 5 1/2" would work if you weren't channeling it. I mocked up a seat in mine where it would be channeled and hung firring strips across mine at different chop levels, as well as running 1" masking tape across the windshield so I could see if it would work for me. Luckily Shaq isn't one of my friends, so I started cutting. Heres a before & some after pics
I am not an authority on chopping, but this is how I did it on my A-coupe: http://www.cl***icroad.com/modelA/chop.htm
Oh ya, Im 6'2" and my head is at the head liner when sitting on the floor of this car. Its channeled 3" also. Much more of a chop and it would need some re thinking on the floor pans(like under the frame) or seating position. This car (its not mine)was chopped with the intent of daily driving and a wife and two kids riding along, and yes it has a back seat.
This is great, just what I need with a too tall 31 tudor in the garage. Thanks for the details Rolf, that is some fine work.
That looks freakin' cool! Is that rear door gonna' open though? Does'nt matter anyway, it looks great. You never see hopped up four-door sedans. Good luck! -Dean
My '29 is chopped 5" and channelled 7.5"... I'm 6'2" as well and it's a little tight in the drivers seat, but not bad if you go for a F1 style seating position and recess the floor. Attached is my concept sketch and mid blasting the body...
Thanks man, I appreciate. The rear doors will open about 1/2 way. The actual rear wheels will be 16" steelies with 750/16s. I actually like the fact that its a fordor, I haven't really seen many(or any)chopped/channeled/fenderless. At least it'll be a little different. Heres a pic of the door opening
I have only 2.5 inches off in my Model A but I think it looks good. My Model T instead got minus 6" and it's still too high... http://photobucket.com/albums/y108/Karimix/
Rolf, nice very nice. I chopped my coupe 4 inches too. My coupe is alot ruffer body wise than yours. Bret
