Well I have no idea if I should even put this up here, Mod's delete it if you want................
    But,
Got some bad news yesterday, had to go see a surgeon about my left arm. You see I fucked it up in the Army, and had a re-construction on it a mid last year.
Still been having problems, so this is my options...........

1- Leave it as is, less than half range of movement and lots of pain.

2- Fusion, loose all use of the arm but takes away all pain.

3- Amputation, cut the fucker off! This is the one my surgeon wants to do!!

Been sitting here since yesterday staring at a spot on the wall (Hey, it statred it!). WTF am I gonna' do?

    Doc.

  2. Get a second and a third opinion. Seriously.

Sorry about the bad news bud.

I am with them Doc, get a lot of additional opinions, there has to be someone out there that can make it better without taking it away. They are making serious progress in joint replacement stuff, so I would not jump to a fast decision...

Keep the arm. Medical science will catch up some day
and it'd be a shame if you didn't have the raw materials
any more when there is a viable solution.

Really sorry to see you faced with those choices, it must be very tough. I would think amputation would be the very last option, and depending on how bad the pain is it might be best to just not do anything right now. Can they manage the pain through meds or by other means?

As the guys suggested, get lots more input from others. Every day some Doctor tells a patient the first diagnosis wasn't right or that there are other options not previously discussed. At least if you try other Doctors and they come up with the same diagnosis you will know you did all you could.

Best of luck and keep your chin up.

Doc, I have limited use of my left arm, range wise and it's not that Bad. If I were you, I would get lots of opinions, before I would remove my arm. There are some very good doctors out there, please find them.--TV

    X1000 on getting more "opinions".

What is it that's primarily wrong, stuctural (bone), muscular or neurological, if that's not too personal?

Have you checked for field trials for whatever it is?

Field trials, Case studies, whatever they call them there, at the opposite end of the Pacific.

Holy shit!! Keep getting opinions 'til you find a doc that says he can sort it out (or get rid of the pain). I'd also suggest going back to your doctor and telling him its 2012 not 1865.

Get a second opinion but don't think amputation is the end. To these folks and many others like them it's just an inconvience. Stay positive whatever happens.

Hi Doc, Horrible bloody options. I'm with the rest, get a few more expert opinions from all walks of the medical field. Hope you find a good solution.

  21. I know that Jerry Lewis (the actor) spent his life with horrible back pain, went through a horrible problem addicted to pain killers and was finally saved by some kind of an inplant that sent some sort of shock or something to the nerves to dull the pain. He carries a little remote control and when he starts to feel pain he just presses a button. Was watching an interview on TV a few years back and he said that thing had saved his life. Might want to do a little searching on the net and quizing of some doctors. Just a thought. Good luck, hope you have a good result.

find someone thats having the same troubles with a leg and go halves on something that costs an arm and a leg..........

Or like the rest said get another opinion, with my luck I would have it removed only to find out the next week that a new thing would have fixed it.

This really sux, you been thru enough bullshit for 2 lifetimes.

  23. Tough decision, I don't envy you at all, very sorry to hear that.
See if you can get in touch with any amputees that have been through the same thing and get their opinion. I can't offer any realistic advice as I've never been through what you're going through but others have. We're all looking at it from the perspective of losing an arm whereas they can give you the lowdown on what its like post - op. They may tell you it was a release getting rid of it and stopping the pain maybe not. Its another opinion, just like the docs opinion... but yes, get as many opinions as you can medical or personal. You'll be surprised how much stuff people get up to post op... Look at Rick Allen!

Chop it, have it pinstriped, then mount it on the balcony like a rod show trophy.

Maybe you could ship it around the world to prominent HAMBers to get it signed/striped...

have it do a 200 Mph + pass at Bonneville...

Wow - this is FULL of opportunities for ya - you been looking at this all wrong!

.....and everytime someone posts "busier than a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest", you could have a witty comeback referring to one-armed persons..

I know several amputees. For many of them, they still have a ton of pain, phantom or otherwise. Since there is a strong chance that cutting it off may leave you in continued pain, my vote would be for keeping the limb, and trying to find a way to work with or around what you have. Once it is gone, you are out of options. Living with pain sucks. Trust me, I know. I nearly lost my foot and ankle out on a dry lake bed, about a decade ago. I had to fight to get to keep it. I am pretty happy that I did.

Hmmmm....I don't have much use for my pecker any more, but I wouldn't let them amputate it.

Living with constant pain, is just that, a pain, but hopefully you find a remedy that will allow you to keep all the parts you came into the world with.

    Best wishes to you,

  30. I am curious as to why they recommend amputation? Many of the cases I have worked we have fixed or saved many a limb. I am curious as to the malady that they say you have that would require such a drastic measure. That is the question I would want answers for.... research your condition and see if you can find others who had anything remotely close to your condition, then see what they did as a resolution... There has to be an answer more than amputation....

Don't let the bastards grind ya down.... Let me know if I can help with medical related questions....
Dr. Fishstein aka The Hammer aka Poor Boy Pete.......LOL (I have a bit of an Identity crisis...)
