I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on these? Good or bad. With my idea for my '63 Skylark I need to get to a 5x5 bolt circle for the wheels I want. Who makes he bast adapters that can get me to this pattern as well. Thanks.
there are some high dollar billet spacers and possibly adapters being made, such as for putting later model wheels on older vettes...but they're high dollar. Did you try JC Whitney? they used to sell the cheezy kind, and mostly they work ok, and priced right. Last I heard of someone buying them was in the early 90s though.
Skylark wires eh? I bought some 1" thick adapters from one of the e-bay dealers, username 'wheeladapters'. Good service, no complaints, quality-looking pieces. Wheels haven't fallen off yet. They cost $140. Talking to the guy, aparently they make these for off-road race trucks, so that gave me a bit of confidence in the durability. Interesting note: I priced out getting the materials to make these myself, and with the price of 6 or 7" 6160 billet, plus studs, plus the lug nuts they include, I couldn't MAKE my own for much less.
I am thinking of putting a set of the '50's buick wires on it. They only come in 5x5 pattern(repops). The '63 is a 4 lug pattern that I am going to do a disc brake swap to in the front but I can only swap it to a 5x4.5 or 5x4.75. So I figured I could use the adapters on top of that for thae 5x5. I will be swapping out the rear as well to match the front and then adapters. I also need to stay around 1" thick. I will look the one guy up on E bay and see what I can find. I have had conflicting stories in the past on their use so I wanted to see how may other guys use them and how they are from a saftey standpoint.
I am using 1 inch spacers on my Buick. The Radir wheels that I bought were 4 inch backspace, and I needed 3 inch. I have put over 1000 miles on the car so far, without a problem. I bought mine from a local tire warehouse, for about $40.00 each. -Joe
