I have a question about the size of the carrier bearings on a Detroit Locker. I see some of them have a 3.250 bearing and are specific to a 3.250 carrier. You cannot put a smaller bearing on the Locker. I also see a bearing size of 3.062 specific to a 3.062 carrier, My question is can a Detroit locker with a 3.062 bearing be replaced with the smaller 2.892 and installed in a 2.892 carrier?

I'm pretty sure I have that setup in my 55, there is a bearing for that application. I dont remember the number...but I did look into it last time I had it apart, last September.

My 28 spline Locker is the smaller bearing. I'll wager there is a bearing that would make it work though.

Hey thanx guys for replies n info, My search has led me to believe there are at least 3 different carriers a B an E and an H. The B is the small bearing 2.92, Th E is the large bearing 3.063 and the H is an even larger aftermarket 3.25.
Hotrodbuilderny, I came up with the same pt#, The Locker for the B and E carriers are the same 1.781 bearing ID but different OD. The H carrier has a 2.0 ID. There all listed here at Moser:
