Hello.I joined HAMB after finding it from searches for parts and info on a project I just started.I retired and decided to find a hobby I could spend a lot of time on that I love to do. This project is in the form of a 1954 (4 door) Plymouth Savoy 230 flat with an Auto trans.I found this car 2 months ago in a local town.It is a barn find 3 owners ago.First found it and started a mild restore on it.New floorboards, striped the chrome and started working on the left side body work.I would guess finding parts and other things caused him to tire of the project and sold it to the very nice person I bought it from. This gentleman was going to rod it out but after some thought decided to find another car instead. He chose a 40 ford.so the car sat in the back of his garage and he posted it for sale. The car came with good trim in the trunk and lots of pitted pot metal and a grand amount of "Patina".Engine runs and smokes a bit, looks like from the bypass most likely from sitting a few years.odometer reads 54k(seems low) driver side window is cracked, and pass.rear window is a sheet of plexi,(easy fix).Windshield is cracked from top to bottom on pass side at curve.no luck finding one yet but still looking. I have strips the front off and am repairing the parts and a few from engine this winter.Love all the great info..big learning curve.Thanx.Steve
Thanx for the comments! Just a note on what I plan on this car.First things first,I plan to go through the engine and trans to be sure its up to some driving. At this point I have a whooping $1200 wrapped up in it.Brakes were done by last owner and will need looked over.Tires are dry rotted and need replaced and the wrong wheels are on it.The plan was to keep it as stock as is possible and bring a slight hot rod attitude to it old school style,2 barrel carb with the progressive 2nd barrel.A cherry bomb duel exhaust. satin black paint from the local John Deere dealer.Air filter stock outside with modern element inside.oil canister with the spin on type inside for stock look also. The engine part of this will only be done if the engine is savable,if not then The plan is to use a older S10 frame and drivetrain. When I get to this point I will decide color combo on int and exterior.I'm still thinking Blood red and tweed interior.I have set a goal of doing all the work myself as cost effective as I can. This means that unconventional fixes will most likely happen. But as I see it,That is old school...
WELCOME FROM MINNESOTA, Congratulation on the retirement, I'm planning on retiring in August also. Sounds like a fun project. Enjoy your time working on it.
