See people "making " then but has anyone ever found an old hot rod from way back ( 50's 60's )that had a hemi dropped in it ? No magazine cars ,,just finds, Survivors , or dead ones spotted.
Yea I found a 62 falcon about 10 years ago not mine, had an axle in it, sat around the corner from my house for years covered. Cover started wearing away you could make out it was a blue G***er from the 60-70's, wasn't really looking for another project so never stopped in, was telling a friend of mine about it in conversation, he told me it had a Hemi he knew the car, went around the corner car was gone.It went to a repair shop where it sat for another couple of years out in the back, guy was and is a drag racer, one day went past the shop car was no longer back there.Don't know where it went, and my son is treally good friends with the shop owners son, just never persued it.
One of the locals who ran with my brother back in the day had a hemi powered '36 ford Cabriolet in his hop for over 40 years before selling it to a guy who restored it back to original flathead power then lost it in a divorce. He never has gotten over what he let get away , you just never know!
Ah yes,.... I Have seen a few over the years,.. But a friend of mine bought this at Kalamazoo a couple years ago,... He actually bought it for the 392, The ugly lil' "Truckster" is gone,... But the Hemi is in his Highboy 31 Coupe.
Sorry, one year from1940. This was shot 2003 at Hot Rod Reunion Bakersfield; I think it was a note with the history of the car. I dont remember the history but perhaps someone here can, it was a real neat heap.
A friend has a 49 merc with a 4 deuce fed 291 Desoto hemi. It was built in 58. he owned it in 1961, then sold it, and his wife found it and bought it back about 5-6 years ago. It has some interesting custom body work too. Matt
A real long shot, but, have you ever seen an altered wheelbase 60 falcon that was from around Glen Cove back in the 60's? Was silver with blue tinted windows. had a 427 chevy in it at one time with an olds rear and ford straight axle. rear wheels were shoved almost to the door.
You know up until the wheels pushed forward it sounded real familiar, a friend of mine has a shop up in Glen Cove I will try and get a hold of him tomorrow. I remember a silver falcon with blue tinted windows, just don't remember if it had an altered wheelbase.
This car was built by John Fleckenstein in 1958-1960, John was 17 in this photo that's me at 15 in the p***enger's seat.
A friend of mine used to own this one and is still in the N.E. area. Sorry, I don't have a better pic of the Hemi.
There was a black 40 standard coupe at the Lake Compounce, Bristol CT swap in Nov. It had old Cal plates, in "as found", survivor condition, but was driven in. Boy, it did not fit well. Too tight up at the fronts of the valve covers. All during my childhood, there was a 46/48 2dr sedan sitting unused in the guys woods next to his yard, that had one in it. It sat there for 30 years at least, ...the guy also had a flawless showcar 50 Ford 2dr sedan with a chromed up early Cad, tuck and roll, etc, that he drove....that should tell you something Ooops, forgot one from 67-68... A local guy who I actually was a neighbor with in the 50's...he had a lime green metallic 35 5w coupe with a 392. It was street driven and street raced. It finally had a wrist pin wear though a cyl wall and he took it out. He had just rolled his new 68 Roadrunner and started putting in the 383/4spd into the coupe...then it sat for some years.
I remember in the mid 60s south Pittsburgh Pa area. A guy had a 54 Corvette with an early Chyrsler Hemi with a push ****on auto behind it. Set well back in the ch***is, VW beetle torsion front suspension. Have no photos. Ago
Took these around 40 years ago, I was still on my Schwinn. County number on the plate says it's a local car but I never saw it again or heard any rumors of it's existence. May still be in a local garage.
San Jose, 1957...There was a used car lot called "The Smilin' Irishman", on South 9th Street, corner of Santa Clara Street. This guy dealt in 'older hot rods', and one day while looking there were no less than 4 cars with Chrysler Hemis! (nothing 'fresh', mind you, these were dirty cars, crudely hashed together...a black '40 Coupe had a 354 in it, mounts were torch-cut and hot arc welded, burned holes along the welds... a '41 Ford Coupe had an old long-bell 331, Cragar adaptor, column shift. That car had garnish moldings chromed, steering post and shift tube also, chrome was deeply pitted. There was a '36 Five window with a 331 too, fenders were torched out to make room for front of valve covers...I had a '36 fiver at the time, what a mess of stuff the "Irishman" had! There were more, can't remember now.
