My first pump restoration. Late '50s Bennett. One side has the original face, the other sports an lcd flat screen tv. Dvd player & radio inside, with speakers mounted in each side under chrome grills. Played a photo montage video at our wedding 2 years ago, & it was a big hit.

I found this gem about a 1/2 mile from the house, the old lady sold the property and had to move by the end of the year, her family was on this property from mid 40's. The pump was installed in the spot where you see it back in 47-48? It has the front and rear panel and it worked the last time she plugged it in about 8 years ago. The first guy offered her a $100 for it, well then I came along and offered her $120 for it and you see the dolly, I wasnt leaving it. Next to the pump was 1940 plymouth frame, included the following, wheels, steering wheel and shaft still attached, motor (flat 6) tranny, radiator, bumpers, ok everthing but the sheet metal, dont eat anything your about to be sick! I told her I would come back for the chassis and give her the $400 she was asking for it, welll a couple days went by and shazzzam it was gone?? Shut the front door! I asked where did it go, well she said I thought I could get more money for scrap, but there is a golden coin left, she had an old wooden shotgun shell box with a bunch of parts in it and there was the carb from the 40' plymouth, it was a stromburg ww 2 bbl, im glad I got all the good stuff off that car (that is what she told me) Have you ever met a dumb person before?? well I just did, lol So the story doesnt end there, she also had a stupid 60's scooter she kept talking about, ok, ok Ill look at the scooter, well it was half burried in the dirt and it turned out to be a 63' Harley Davidson Topper, my first thought was to buy a lottery ticket, I had to haggle the price down, she wanted $50 and ended up paying her $40 for it. I almost forgot the brand name it is a Tokheim 36 B model made in 36-37? The globe and top crown were gone and it has a Metro logo on the front and rear panel under the Green paint.

here is an old Tokheim Texaco pump and in the background there are 2 old Gilbarco Atlantic pumps I also redid , I pulled the texaco from a farm a few years ago , quick sandblast and a weekend worth of bondo and paint work later it was good enough for me... then the 2 Atlantic pumps were at a local gas station that closed down years ago, they also gave me the large porcelin sign that hung outside the station..

Here is a shot of my Martin & Schwartz Model 19-A circa 1928. It is all apart now and in the process of being fully restored. Mobil Gas (special) will be the motif. I used to work
    for Mother Mobil.

  25. To all of you who say "Someday I'll be able to afford a cool pump/display like these guys have!": Don't be discouraged!!! This stuff is still out there and some of it is still amazingly cheap and some of it is even still FREE. All that you have to do is ASK when you see something sitting neglected!

My Tokheim 300 pump came from a gas station here in town that was getting bulldozed about 15 years ago. I asked the surly bulldozer operator was they were going to do with the old pumps and he grumbled that his job was to clear the lot. I asked if he minded if I took them (there were 2 that I had to piece together to make one good one) and he implied that I could do whatever I wanted as long as I left him alone. So... a few coats of paint and a repro globe later, I have a nice night light for the driveway and sidewalk. It's still far from being in "mint" condition, but it does sit outside all day every day. (And the guts are still inside the pump, so if someone is going to steal it, they're going to have to work for it!)

The Tire-Flator was from my uncle's Atlantic station. When ATLANTIC became ARCO and began strong-arming him in the 70's he closed it down and he just set the pumps and the Tire-Flator out behind the garage. A few decades later, he offered it to me. Someone else got the gas pumps unfortunately.

I picked up the shade for the warehouse light on the front of the garage at a swap meet for next to nothing, and just used a modern floodlight base from Lowes inside of it. My local muffler shop / metal fabricating guy cut up some swimming pool rail that he had and we used it for the mounting arm. All of the lights are on one programmable timer, but a photocell would probably work better, but they do come on every night and turn off every morning by themselves. At Christmas we put a red bulb in the globe and a green bulb on the face.

All of the signs are repros except for the Fallout Shelter and ATLAS TIRES sign, and the gas can and dog bowl & chain came from the curb in our neighborhood at different times. I made the wreath from some sprinkler piping that I found in the trash and wrapped it with garland and lights.

The Pontiac quarter panel came from a J-U-N-K car that we found in our little country junkyard (industrial enamel that I bought cheap at the local Habitat for Humanity store makes it look a LOT better) and the taillight is on 24/7 thanks to a dashboard light bulb and a 9v cell phone charger. The traffic light is gone now (buddy of mine had to have it) but it used to give you a green light when the security light came on. :)

You just have to be creative and ask a lot of questions when you see something that you can use!!!

My most favorite moment was when I first moved into the house and I was putting up the big TEXACO sign. I felt like I was being watched and as I turned around my elderly neighbor was standing in his side yard watching me. I quickly offered to "tone it down" if he didn't like all of that stuff on display, and he just smiled and said "No, I LIKE it! I remember when gas stations used to actually look like this!!!"

Heres the top half of a G&B T6603/4. I have some of the bottom parts, the guts long gone. I saved from the trip to China. Anyone here have a clue on what year? I plan on building shelves inside and displaying all my diecast cars-trucks inside. Where do you get repoped globes? Gotta add a coke sign, Its on my barn. The signal light was from the Danielson CT Twin Drive-in!
