  3. It's a free country . . . you can do whatever you want.
Personally, I'd run steel wheels on that particular car. Or old, dark gray magnesium Americans.

The Real Rodders/Halibrands combo would look great. Aggressive and purposeful but,
Black steelies with thin trim rings and polished lugs would look damn cool against that beautiful blue paint. Deep ones out back and skinny up front wrapped in black would look sinister, Cheaters and skinnys with wide whites would add a touch of cl*** but still say I'll kick your a$$...

    Aesthetically speaking... (He-he-he-he....)

I just got my new Real Rodder wheels. Big $ but very nice. I'm going to throw alot of power at them & the e-bay knock offs are'nt rated to handle it. I had also heard the Halibrands quality is'nt what it once was. Pat said make all the power you can & these wheels will take it. I also liked them being made in the U.S.A.

Rob, was your car at Marshall's awhile back? I saw it there and didn't realize that was yours. I was drooling all over that thing. Oh, and to stay on topic, I'm a steelies fan and love the chromies on your car. I know you are looking for an alternate option, which is cool (I want to do the same on my '33), but I think another form of steelie would be my choice. Either way, it's not like you're not going to f' up that car with real rodders wheels. JMO.

Ole Saphire , has change hands a few times. When you saw it at Marshall's it belonged to Dave S. and then was bought and sold a few times after that also. I did a trade/ cash with a buddy here in Tacoma to get it. It cost me my 49 Coupe, sold my 56 crusty Nomad. I saw this car at Bruce D. place along while back. I wished I could have owned something like that and I got a call if I was interested. I had to bite. It was really cool seeing it at Bruce's when it was just put back on the road after along slumber. I think I'll be holding on to this one for awhile.

That was another reason I kinda was telling you to go the Real Rodders wheels route. When Eric Vaughn set up the molds for them, he spent allot of time playing with the backspaces as compared to the Halibrands to keep tires under the fenders on the average full fendered car. If you have a fairly narrow rear end under the '35, like say 56", you might get a pair of 8" Halibrands to fit under. Most of those cars were built with rear end widths more like 59" or so so it becomes a ton of work just to change tires and wheels. They do make the small windows in the Real Rodders wheels too... If it were mine, I think that is what I would be looking at. They would certainly kill the "street roddy" (Huh?! How can an ultimate race car wheel be "street roddy"?!) that someone was refering to above.

Watching this thread I have been amazed at how much resistance you have gotten to putting hot rod wheels onto your '60s hot rod....

This surprised me also, I still haven't completely made up my mind. Original Halibrands is one option, Real Rodder is one also.. But I did ask for everyone ideas, and set a poll to see what was the consensus would be.. so we are still up in the air.. keep your votes and opinions coming, I read every post. This car I'm not going to mess with other than wheel sets.

Either wheels would look like **** on yer car.....would clash with the paint and scream fairgrounds cruiser....if that makes sense....
If if ya just gotta...then full polished big windows....cause the "crusty" look only looks good on old racecars....

Well at least consider Americans then.....10x better than Halibrand style wheels on yer ride...
Hell....just roll that set at Marshalls next to yer car and see how bad it's gonna look....hehe....

I'm partial to the painted steel wheels with caps and rings. They never go out of style and would look good on the coupe

I think a set of big windows would look great. or a set of straight spoke (non polished) Americans are another wheel I think would look good. I want a set of both..

rob-redm, tell you what, bring the 5/W over to my shop I have a set of Halibrands and a set of ET III ( like the Real Wheels & Halibrands). Even have a set of Mehalich (look them up) bolt ons. The offset may or may not be correct for the coupe but it will give you the "look" mocked up from the side view.
PS, just because I have recomended steely's dosen't mean I don't like Real Wheels or Halibrands, I bought a set of the first Real Wheel (Fish?) made.....................
May even have a set of wide fives to try on!

I'm guessing this car may not fit the mold here, but I'd sure like to see more....
