Just read this thread....what a dream! What a hotrod!
I think you could narrow the rear alittle without hurting the vibe. But, I don't know if I'd lower it much. That photo from the back is just plain killer. Thats what its supposed to look like. You do need some tail lights fo safety though. It'd be a shame to get ass-ended.
I don't think you ever said how much you paid. Don't want to make us feel worse?
Its plain to see, you're having fun. You're a lucky guy.

Ahh yes that`s right willy the christmas money i`d gladly throw a hundred larry`s way for 10k or a mil

todztoyz It sure is i have dreamed this since i seen AG and as i grew up around Hot Rods with my father. I agree with all you said tailights are a sure thing but waiting tio find the right set I may throw some 37 fords on it for now until i get some thingelse. I just cant cut into the rear panel for 50 pontiac lights though. I am researching on what they had in the 50`s probably mid to late. It would be a shame to get rear ended for sure! I was lucky to find it and at a great price i dont want any of you to feel bad at all there out there just be ready for when you get lucky. I am stoked and am having fun withthe car and all the people i have met. I`m gonna leave as i got it just maintain it

Dave, I would not narrow the rear. You can try different offsets for wheels.

I have the same 60" wide rear on my full fender 32, and I will be putting up a pic on my thread today, showing my final choice on wheels and caps.

Frank I keep going back and forth but i am going to leave it all alone and drive it. I`m going to just tinker with the things that need fixing like rear trailing arms and it needs tires before i have a blow out. I like yours it looks Bitchin` :) I`m gonna build a car i got a bunch of parts gathered up. it`ll be my version of that Bitchin` car 3wlarry had or if i can find a 3w and have it full fendered depends on what i find and can afford. So are we gonna beable to see that car of yours on the road in the spring whats the plan?

I don't get much side work in mid winter, so I am working on it 7 days/week. It needs to get on the road this year...it's dumb to have 3 unfinished cars...

I am looking to cut corners where I can, I never wanted a show car, just something that looks like an old build with old parts...nothing new/aftermarket. That slows things up. ....and the whole car was so rough.

I have 6 barn finds to get running for a NJ collector, coming here in late spring or so, so I need to get as much done now, as I can, even if it's not my best effort.

So are you going to pull it out for rebore? or just doing the valves?

Notice the days are getting longer just in the last week?.....I was wondering how long you were going to put that off... spring is coming too quick for these builds.

Pulled the heads to see what i had, found a bunch of valves and seats bad but also has a really big ridge I believe there will be broken rings as i have seen this before and when oil is leaking out the road draft tube its a good indication aswell lol And Hammeredt will tell you it smoked a little :) Now do i clean it up a little just do machine work and put back together or do i Hot Tank it and make it pretty to?? And what color I hate making choices with this damn car ;)

Things were tight with my sons race car in the shop to

Yes you should tank it to clean out the passages.

I can't chose anything either.. I need to paint the firewall soon; I don't remember white firewalls when I was young, just black...but white will need way less fussy sanding/blocking.

Toss a coin and get going...that's my choice :)

    hi dave,
do you remember the black '32 roadster that was always at the sheraton friday night cruz? I believe his last name was mcgain, i think that had an olds motor in it that was painted a dull red with off yellow letters, just a thought :)

I planned on the passages being clean, trust me nobody gets them cleaner. The motor will look way to good and out of place after i tank it and paint it so it will make me clean more of the car i guess its not a bad thing... I know my firewall is black and thta i have seen some cars in magazines that had the walls white but dont know if there original or not.

Tom I dont remember it off hand but maybe if i seen a pic. Was young then and really didn`t pay attention to olds etc lol I know they were green but i cant come to painting in green dont like any green or yellow Milner gets the only pass for yellow :D

Satin Valspar in a spray can from Tractor Supply. It's way better than glossy which would not look right. Lots of colors, choose one, and be done with it.

Oh, and my son just talked me into a white firewall. He said it would look better than black and hide flaws. Flaws I got:eek:

I like the Valspar satin black. But OMG those spray nozzles are crap. Each and every can is good for one use; then plenty of issues afterward.

I don't know what's available for rings, but last year I did find NORS .000 to .009 "file-to-fit" rings for a 324 on ebay for $15 shipped.

Everything is available but getting scarce. It really needs a overbore, I found 3 stuck exhaust valves in the guides theres my skip. Thats what you get after 50 years worth of sitting i amlucky it ran aswell as it did. Needs lots of cleaning...... I want to Hot tank but may just do it by hand and keep the patina for originality

I checked with Pease in Palmer for pistons; he only had a few in various sizes for 303. i did not ask about rings, etc.

As far as originality...don't let that thought mess up common sense. We all know it was and still will be the same Olds 303 motor from back then, so don't worry. If you want to tank for the bore, why not. Paint it back to that "farmer red" if you want originality.

I meant originality as a survivor and to show how the car came etc you know what i mean??

    My 2¢:

You opened pandora's box when you took it apart (right thing to do IMO if you don't want to trailer the survivor everywhere) and the only way it's going to be clean enough to put back together is by tanking it. How would you feel if some crud dislodged and got pumped all through the innards, undoing all the work you just finished?

    Just sayin'...

(I'm waiting for my block and crank to get back from the machine shop because some crud wedged and spun a cam bearing and scored the crank on my fresh rebuild. And that one *was* tanked.)

Yes, I know what you mean..but like those ancient rear tires, sometimes it's ok to redo something. All I meant was to not let the car hold you a prisoner. ...but if you slip that BBC in there, then we gotta have a little talk;)

oh, I just thought of something; it had a single carb once:rolleyes::D..and "now it doesn't"
