I am looking for advice on running a blowthrough centrifugal supercharger on a FE. Such as best place to get a set up. I have not founda place that makes a full setup for a FE so my guess is I will have to build some of it. Thanks for the help.

  3. Heres some advice from a guy who has built and designed quite a few of these systems over the years. I am as much a fan of these if not more than Roots type blowers. O/T builds with over 1000 H.P. on pump gas and street driven are easily obtainable with the knowledge.
Ok, heres some basics, yes you will need to fab up your own mounting plate, not hard, take your time, build a nice template out of cardboard or a nice piece of artist paper from a office supply store. I prefer a plate over just bracketry, but I also dont have a FE in front of me.
Pay for and have built a blow-thru specific carb, this is important. A blow thru carb is diffrent from a draw-thru Roots type carb. Each has its own details that need to be addressed to function properly and not drive you nuts tuning and driving.
Also, I believe all blow-thru hats are NOT created equal, some of them you can build at home yourself from s**** laying around the shop. Get a nice cast aluminum piece made for the job. It will look more traditional too.
As with any forced induction keep the boost in check unless you have built a engine specifically for the added boost pressures. Dont take it for granted because it doesn't look as ominous as a big Detroit huffer.
I highly recommend some modern upgrades such as a ignition box that will reference boost pressure and adjust the timing as boost increases. This isnt totally needed as long as you keep things respectable as far as boost pressure. Your fuel system needs to be built for such a system to keep you from trouble and melt downs too.
Little but important items such as ignition, spark plugs, compression, cam selection, etc, all are similiar to any forced induction or blower/supercharger basics.
Bottom line is get it mounted securely. Then your drive system, belts and pulleys, etc. get them dialed in. Next run your lines for oil and return if needed, some units are self contained.
Finally, fuel and ignition system. Dont skimp on either here. Do your homework and ask questions if you dont know, TR

    Thanks

  5. A pet peave of mine is always a good and/or a new set of valve springs when installing even a mild boosted system. Dont go beyond the cam manufacturers recomendation. If you have a stock cam which is fine, just at the very least install some new springs if you dont know the history of the ones ou have now. Good cheap insurance and yes you can do it without taking off the heads rioght on your car or truck.

To answer your question originally you asked, believe it or not e-bay is a great place to start for the carbs, the hat, the blowers themselves, and some of the other items you might need. There is a guy that sells the old and traditional cast hats. I'll see if later I can send you his store name, Keep the faith, Philippians 4:23, TR

The FordFE dot com forum has alot of information and experts concerning the FE family. One member has even won DragWeeK with a blow-through FE in a Mach I. He also has his own site which I currently don't have a link to. BTW, the FordFE forum it's an archaic Network54 and getting through to join is a confusing and ***bersome process. Load up on patience when joining, lol, Rod.

  8. Your welcome brother. Another route too is the pressurized box for the carb instead of a carb hat. This way your carb is inside a aluminum box, the boxes are expensive, and probably not to HAMB friendly LOL. I would not be afraid to design even a multiple carb hat for a very traditional HAMB engined car. One of the carb guys can set your carbs up for a blow thru, and you build the hat. If you do the enclosed box deal, you just need to seal off where the fuel line comes in and the throttle cable, and any vacuum hoses you might have coming out. TR

There used to be a website for the McCulloch vs57 superchargers. I can't seem to put my finger on it right at the present; maybe someone here can list the URL. I sent the people that did the website some detailed pictures of the modifications Carter made on the AFB's for blow through. Remember Studebaker that some factory blow through applications that used Carter AFB's.
