Mike, I am pretty sure it fits fine. My 38 had the 49-54 front brakes on the stock solid axle when I first got it. I converted to Must II and no longer have the stock axle, so I am going from memory. I think it had the 49-54 spindles as well.

  5. the 38 beam axle has parallel leafs , I know there is a cut off as to how new/old a king pin fits these , but can not remember when ,my 49 has NEW king pins so i would be ahead of the game if the spindles are a bolt/pin? on ,giving me marginally better brakes and 5 bolt hubs, not near as good as discs ,of course , but The Speedway kit is adaptable to the 49-54 spindes as well ,if we get that far , the axle i have has all the frame brackets and shackles ,hopefully they will line up w the 49 frame , I KNOW 49-54 PU does, did it on my 51 g***er drag car in '81 ,I'll find out this weekend about that part.

no thay wont work the king pins are differt size the 38 is smaller what you can do is make bushing for 54 spindeles to fit the 38 king pins the hole in the 38 axles is smaller that makes the king pin to small for the 54 spindel king pin bushings

My pop bolted a 54 chevrolet frontend in his 39 chevrolet, worked great! Might think about that if you have the access to the 54 frontend?

The big difference in all this stuff is between 47-54 p/u spindles and '49-'54 car stuff. The two groups have a different king pin inclination angle and do weird things to the camber when interchanged. If I remember correctly, the pickup spindles interchange with straight axle p***enger cars. Have tried just the brakes on the spimdles you have?

The later brakes will bolt on to the early spindles. Rod & Custom had an article. I think you line up the top 2 holes and have to drill the bottom. Use the spacers from the later brakes. You have to use the old inner bearing race (fits the spindle) and then the rest of the bearing fit. Use grade 8 bolts and cotter pins to hold it together.

I have a dropped axle and '54 brakes on my '37 coupe.

Discs? You can modify the later hubs so that a Corvette rotor will fit and then use the Corvette caliper. You have to make the caliper bracket and spacer. Street Rodder had this article. It had the dimensions for the bracket and what to trim on the hub.
(I got the article somewhere. Haven't found it lately. I forgot what year Corvette to use.) I have the dimensions in my CAD.
