This is the chance we take when driving any of our cars...there's whaaaay more of "them" than "us"...I only hope you have a good insurance agent, because it seems like that's what it comes down to, now-a-days....

Not saying this applies to your case, but I have noticed (in Michigan) after trying to navigate my "boats" thru the waters...that people have forgotten what it means to allow a "safe distance" in traffic...whan I'm driving one of my cars, I easily get pissed when a "ricer" slams on his brakes and can stop on a dime to avoid a rear end collision. I can't. If I'm driving 4500 pounds of steel, I ain't gonna stop on a dime. People in the last 25 years have forgotten what it's like to drive these big cars. And, they don't care! That means we have to be all that more careful. The bad thing is, if you're in the modern car I hit, you can buy what you need to fix your car, but I can't...without a lot of searching.

If you're driving a 2500 pound '96 Honda 2-door, and can stop on a dime, you scare me, because if I'm following you and you decide to hit the brakes because you're driving too close to that car in-front of you, and I can't stop in time... I can only imagine what truckers are going thru right now...you all need to think about everyone behind you. Nobody seems to care now-a-days about anyone but themselves. People are going to PRISON for driving like *****S...that's all I got to say.

I know you got blindsighted Gearhead55, but I thought I would post this observation...

I'm sorry for your loss...and hopeful for its return to glory! Sometimes, it's the "little miracles" that set us "back"...to make us "better". :)

Damn Brian, that blows. Good looking car. On the brightside, it is a tri-5, and parts are available new or secondhand relatively cheaply. I think you'll probably come out in the black in the long run. What a ****in shame though, I had a '57 Bel Air that met the same fate

It is bad having to deal with the JERKS from their insurance ( took me a little over 6 weeks  ) but keep your COOL and you can win. After 5 weeks.........of talking I told them I was tired of talking and they could deal with my lawyer..the next Monday they called and settled....at my price. I got the body man I wanted and got paid for the new parts.

I got the whole car painted, got new running boards, and two new bumpers (rechromes ....no repros) ....on his insurance money....

    Hang in there....

    :)

    Damn!

    That is my biggest fear.

Nobody got seriously hurt and it can be fixed so it's not the end of the world.

terrible luck, I hope your ride comes out better for it.

Doesn't mean it can't be fixed. but you'll need a shop that has some one old enough working in it to have frame experience and not just unibody cut and spot weld stuff.
You was gonna g***er axle it anyway!
There are companies making ropop frames for those.

Has the guy you hit claimied he didn't see you because "you must have been speeding" and all that damage isn't his fault because you didn't have a front bumper like you should have, etc. etc. yet?
Don't be surprised when that becomes the insurance record story....

    :(
