  3. Fred, I am in my 40s and raised around this stuff. Trust me, I am not blowing smoke up your *** when I say the stuff I liked at 5,6,7 (young reader of dads magazines) is still the stuff I like today. Whats Ryans line?.........."skating the same line since" Same here;) Highly doubtfull you will ever see me buying blister pack billet accessories and bolting on vintage Boyd modular wheels.

But, some of the 70s stuff was nice, look at all the Early Times cars.

  5. Thanks Mr World traveler!

For the record, I have posted this before, the first movie my folks ever took me too was AG. I was in my Jammies, it was a huge treat to have a Sprite and mom covered my 5 year old eyes for the moon scene. **** wrecked me for life, the cars not the mooning.:D

In the San Fernando Valley on Ventura blvd in the 90's there was a Friday cruise night at Carneys hot dogs, the restaurant made from a train car.

A friend of mine introduced me to a man named Terry Coates, he worked for the studios and bought the Graffiti Merc. He had it there, it was maroon and had the back window lowered in the trunk, as if was full length, the grill was made from a Camaro frt bumper. He and his son did the body work and paint, it was not show quality but a driver. He had a photo of the car in the Universal back lot with a old Vette stored on its roof, which damaged it badly. he drove the car for the summer, I will see if I have any pics, it did have a personalized license plate, AG MERC or something like that.

My Car. My Way. What ever way that I choose. Until you start paying my bills thats the way it is. Sorry if my primer is not black enough, my wheels are not red enough or my whites are not wide enough for you. Now rub some Vagisil on it and move along. I bet if you hurry you can share you wisdom with someone else who doesn't want to hear it.

"vagisil" lmao.. I like to use "go wash the sand out of your ****** and quit complaining"

I love your "tribute car"! I would love to build one someday. Anyone who poopoo's on clones/tribute cars should not be on this website, as when you are building your "traditional" hotrod are you or are you not copying the style of something that was already created? You wont talk about a newly built "traditional" hotrod like that. So in graffiti's case, he is building a 32 ford in the "traditional american graffiti style". Simple as that. And if you dont like it, dont open your mouth, because it doesnt matter what you think anyways. The only criticism graffiti32 should get on his car, is if he is going for an exact tribute car, his car should only be judged and picked apart for how close or how far his car is to the original. But if the changes and differences were intentional then it is no one elses business other than graffiti32's. anyone who disagrees with me, dont even bother replying with a negative response, I wont waste my time reading it, and graffiti32, you shouldnt bother with them either. Build your tribute car the way you want. Unless someone funds your build, they have zero say about anything other than their own opinion. And we all know what those are like.

    Thanks,

  12. Badshifter,

I don't have a problem with building a clone, it isn't the building of a clone that I have a problem with it is the worship. Hell I don't even worship the "heros" of our hobby and they really existed.

I think that people act like the movie was about the cars and that is not what it was about at all. It had some cars in it and certainly a lot of peoples lives revolved around cars back then but it was a comming of age movie. It was not about cars at all but about a group of teeny boppers growing up and recognizing that being cared for by mommy and daddy was fast comming to an end. No more fast and free but time to knuckle down and make it on your own.

    Grafitti,
By the way like the site. I was never a big fan of the movie for its historical value but it was a fun movie and actually a pretty good movie for the '70s. Your site is very smooth, a lot smoother than a lot of other sites built along those lines.

Thanks to the HAMB the word of this scam is spreading like wildfire. Hopefully we will save someone from making a big $$$$$$ mistake. After doing some more digging I found that car is for sale on several different sites. Looks like he is trying to unload it quick before everyone know the truth.

Check this photo of his car show display. It shows the 51 Merc copy that Glen Shemin built as a before picture of his car. I know this because If you look close at Glens photo you can see the original 58 in the background. The picture was taken at the Petaluma show.

  14. Yoyu may have saved a n FNG from posting the pic of his original Pharos merc and finding out that he took a beating, right here on the HAMB. That is a good thing.

Hey while we got your attention anybody want to buy a bridge?

That ad is a fake! I know because I have the original Merc parked in my back yard... right next to the James Dean Porsche and the Bonnie & Clyde death car...

    Nice site, Graffiti !!

The Milner coupe is f'ugly, several bad dimentional details - but having said that, it is iconic and any true clone would be neat and attention-grabbing.

"This article is packed with type of writing. It is a bit difficult follow at times as the Wrighter really reaches deep in to the movie with his comparisons of Milners chopped and channeled 32 to a knights armor." ...

I always wanted to know who or what shop, built/redid the 32 for the original movie...

I read it was an older rod that the studio bought and had it changed, but that's all.

    any more info?

better yet, any pics of the car before it was changed?
