You put a item up that you want ship with dimesions/weight/etc and people (shippers) bid to deliver or I'm pretty sure you can set a set price. I personally never used the service, but i have a friend who has like 6 times now and never had a problem yet. but keyword it yet.... :)

  4. I tried to help you out the night before I left Ohio ......

Here is the first leg of my trip to St. Louis, MO:

Here is what I would have had to do to pick up your hood:

If you look at the difference, you can see your
pick up location was not along my route .....

I quoted you $165 to take your hood about 2000 plus miles
to Barstow, CA in an enclosed trailer ...

No packaging required - no crate to build - less than
10 cents a mile to haul your hood ....

You replied with an offer of $100 - I said " no " - you replied
with another offer of $125 ......

Like I said .... leave it to the Buyer to arrange transport

That's the lamest thing I have ever heard. It's obvious that you have no backbone and that the guy buying the hood had the upper hand.

You should have told him you had a very affordable h***le free way to get the hood to him and what the cost was.

No negotiations. If he didn't want it then no hood sale to him.

It would be up to him to do better.

Guess that is y the hood is still for sale...... I personally wanted to use Jim but I was not gonna lose money and the buyer was not willing to pay more. Not much I can do about that I'm not exactly sure how that gives me no backbone? Honestly not sure how you got that one?

Plus the guy had to drive 6 hours to the town to meet Jim too. Not much i can do about the buyer not wanting to do that?

bmart, if you are selling a part that is hard to find, and the guy in California really needed it bad, 165 is cheap. I think the back bone comment was to the fact that all you had to tell the buyer was, "If you want it, it is going to cost you 165 shipping, if you want it cheaper, it is up to you to arrange pick up and packaging. It is also on you for insurance and damage." You let that buyer put you in the middle of a battle that wasn't to be fought. The guys here on the HAMB are a bunch of standup guys, and this guy was ready to help you, and reroute his trip, and that does cost him time and money. With 3.50 for gas here in the midwest, and 4.00 gas on the west coast, 10 cents a mile is a steal. The point being is that your buyer didn't want the part bad enough. You should tell him, that is the price, and not put it on the shipper to have to fight with the guy.

I essentially did tell him that now he is looking for ways to ship it but its still for sale cuz he wouldn't pay more. I can't help that. I'm hoping someone more local will buy it. Ppl don't wanna spend worth anything these days

I got that one because you didn't seem to have the balls to tell the guy what was up, instead you tried to lowball the shipper on an already great offer.

And you kept making excuses that it wasn't you and that it was the buyer of the hood.

You didn't have to lose money.
All you had to do was man up and tell the buyer, the hood is X # of $ and the shipping is this # of $.

If you don't like it then get a hood somewhere else.
You would sell it to someone who really wanted it.

The best idea I have heard here is the big screen TV box. Wrap it well and let him pay what it costs to get to him if he wants it.

Exactly what I did. I said hood is 150 shipping is 165. He said he would not pay that much since he would have to drive 6 hours one way. So like I said he asked me to ask him those prices. Some ppl negotiate. He might have too. I didn't know. But once again the hood is still for sale so i guess that means I have "balls" according to ya. I can't make a guy pay more and honestly if a guy said this is what u r paying and I didn't wanna pay that much there is a good chance I would tell the guy I would p*** which is what happened here. Like I said not sure how that means i have no balls or backbone according to you? Wow

I sold parts of a '32 pickup cab to a guy in Kansas. He arranged the shipping thru Fed-Ex. Initially he said to just strap them to a skid/pallet. But after attempting to go there and ship it, the guy @ Fed Ex said you better crate it up as damage unboxed is almost certain. So I went back to the guy and said to crate it up it will be another $X. He was very reasonable and said ok and apologized about me having to box it up as I stated in my ad that I did not want to box this thing up. The guy was really nice about everything and offered any help out that way should I need it. and he's got a suhweet '32 5 window too. About 3 hours labor and it was done and all were happy. Note: it showed up fine with a big fat footprint on the crate.

You can't let people force you to do things you don't want to do. On the other hand..... telling people how it is, my way or the highway, if you don't like it too bad, isn't a good at***ude to have when dealing with potential customers. For one reason or another things don't always work out. That's just going to happen.

You just don't get it and I guess at this point you never will.

You still have the hood for sale. So you will eventually find a buyer who will be happy to have it and pay.

You made yourself look bad when you tried to negotiate the good deal you were offered to have the hood sent out.

But enough wasted time, you won't "get it".

    easy

just put at the bottom of your ad

** Buyer pays for shipping and any packaging**

If they want it bad enough they will pay

I was low balled on a 53 Chevy hood that was almost prefect, **** it had nice paint even on it..like I asked the guy, how many 53 chevy hoods are being made? its either you pay what im asking and arrannge your shipping or the next guy that NEEDS this hood gets it!

(he wanted me to do everything, and than didnt like the price it was going to take to get it done)

guess what, it was gone the next week to a different person and I got what I was asking for it and didnt have to deal with "the shipping night mare"
a week later the first guy called back and said he would agree to the cost..he snoozed and he loozed

those that are prepaired and want the **** bad enough know how to get it to their front door
