Im looking for a complete side molding clip set for my 1956 ford mainline 2dr sedan. I want something complete with instructions that I dont have to guess or piece together. Does anyone have a clue on where I can buy a set or even a part number?

I'm not sure if anyone offers a pre made set although Dennis Carpenter does have them for the door, front fender and quarter panel for a '56 Ford at around 2 bucks per clip.

I found a local automotive supply that caters to the body and fender guys that offers boxes of universal clips and was able to get a package of 25 for about 20 bucks.

This place offers the basic thing I used on the '54 Wagon. HRP

Thats why you always number them when you take them off. Also try Concours Parts.

I replaced my old clips with some new nylon ones from FastenAll and loved them. NO scratching when lining up the trim and they won't rust and fit fab. Those metal ones are a pain in the booty. They had a ton of sizes and wouldn't use any thing else know that I have found these. Good Luck, love that customline trim on those Fords! ~sololobo~

Hold the chrome up to where it goes and measure the trim at that location to get the appropriate width clips. There are at least 2 different clips. The one at the edge of the door has a threaded stud. They should all be the same width. The repro clips may have studs too so don't panic. I'm not sure if there are any under the triangular piece but if there are, measure what you need. The replacement clips might not be exactly the same but the important part is the width of the chrome. It's not rocket science. The holes in the door/body determine the location and the width of the chrome in that area is the only thing to worry about. Take the short piece in to the store so you can get the proper size. Count the holes and get a couple extra. I have faith in you you can do this. I'm pretty sure they will all be the same size. Fortunately all of mine are still in good shape. I don't believe that you will find a complete kit for the low rent Mainline.

I'm turning my Custom line into a Mainline.

I have a 56 Mainline thats at the body shop and I have all my moldings off and at my house, with the clips still attached to the pieces. I can look and see if they have a part number, or at lease measure them if it helps. Far as I know it has factory ones on it, although they have been removed by my dad 20 years ago and couldnt say 100%.

All of the ones on my car now are threaded with nuts. I may or may not replace them with new ones, havent decided yet.

Ok here is some pics, hopefully it will help. On the larger ornaments there were 2 clips in there, and on the straight spears and door spears they all were the same size small clips.

The 2 larger clips have threaded stud lengths of 5/8" and all the small clips have 3/4" studs.

My damn digital caliper broke, so if you cant read this one (i cant worth a flip) I can measure with a tape. Here is a good place to shop for some, or call

Well my hunt for these clips begin. The picture of the small clip with the prong where did that one go? On the door spear? Alao if I can remember right the big long side spear on my cars quarter panel had the square clips that you squeeze two tabs in the middle and it released.

Notice in the 4th picture, you see the little clip installed in the long spear, but its the same size clip that is in the short door spear also. I know there are different clips that will work, so like I said I have no idea if mine are factory or something my dad put in moons ago. I just couldnt say for sure on what to use outside of what I have, this is my only 50's car and I dont have much knowledge outside of what I have for it.

This is the moldings on my car

Ctfortner, you have been a great help with the moldings and clips. I had called up jeff at restoration specialties and he put together a side molding clip set for me.

Great to hear, glad I could help out. Let me know how they work out, maybe I will order up a new set since I am putting new (NOS) trim on anyway

Yes I have the set that was on the car when I got it, ***ume its original. I also have a brand new set (NOS) that is still in the old Ford brown paper and it is mint. I am going to polish it a little and put it on after the paint job. I am keeping both though, in case anything ever happens I dont have to look for trim pieces.
