Corvette master cylinder with disc/drum. Did I plumb it backwards?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fordor Ron, Jan 26, 2012.

  1. Yes... I searched and seem to be getting conflicting info. Here's what I have:

Speedway GM metric disc brake kit on front.

    8" Ford rear with drums.

Corvette style master cylinder with no booster.

Wilwood residual valves front and rear with a proportioning valve on the rear lines for the drums.

This is all mounted in a 32 Ford ch***is under the floor with the master cylinder run "backwards".

I didn't notice a big difference in the size of the Reserviors so I ran the lines with the disc plumbed to the port nearest the mounting flange and the drums to the front port furthest from the flange. This is what a mechanic buddy told me was correct but I'm starting to think he was wrong?

Am I crazy or is the Corvette master different from most other GM masters?

    Thanks in advance.

I think the largest chamber on the master cylinder gets plumbed to the front discs.

Wrong , rear port (close to mount ) to rear , Front port (furthest from mount ) to front.

The Corvette has the same size resevoirs as it's disc disc.

I guess it depends on what gen. Corvette MC you have but when I hear `vette MC I ***ume it's intended for 4 wheel disc brakes. If that's what you have it's probably not the best choice for disc/drum.

  6. This makes sense and is the opposite of what I have done now. No wonder the adjustment was driving me crazy.

The disc/disc mc's are fine for a disc/drum car as long as 10lb rear and 2lb front residual valves are used. Sounds like you just need to switch ports and you'll be good.

  8. Ha! This is what I'm talking about. This diagram is what I have now which is opposite from what Limey Steve just said.

    Thanks for the effort though...

On Disc/ Drum Masters the front res is usually bigger than the rear, disc there same size.:D

That drawing is correct follow the lines front of M/C to front brakes rear to rear. Remember we put the master cylinder backwards under the floor so the lines cross over in our location. If M/C is on firewall facing forward , front to front rear to rear ,simples. Common mistake as it looks neat when done wrong !!

  11. Gotcha... I was looking at it like it was on the firewall.

    Thanks again guys...
