'Just don't use the ****er flavored, you might burn your tongue while licking the frame if you get hungry while your welding...
If you burn flux core wire you will have splatter. One of the reasons to use anti-splatter spray is that it is paint friendly. The white stuff is normal. Don't think about duty cycle. As said before unless you are doing long continuous welds you won't overheat the machine. Welding is all about practice and repi***ion but you need basic knowledge about setup and you need to know what a proper weld should look like. If you don't have someone that can show you some technique I would suggest one of the many DVD's out there. Practice, practice, practice. Shops like our's will give you as much s**** as you want to practice on.
x3 on using PAM. I also spray it on the inside of the br*** nozzle, then scrub the scuzz buildup with an old toothbrush.
we use spray booth floor paper. comes in a 300 foot roll for around 85 bucks from a body shop supply place online ,thick fire proof paper ,won't burn and it's white so it helps some to see what your doing.
Good clean welding area, Im talking REALLY clean, no fish-eye metal, and a good ground clamp thats also clamped to a really nice and clean place. Use some anti-splatter, the stuff I have is a red tint and comes in a spray bottle youd use for windex. Dont over spray the area, just about 6 inches around the area of welding and only a couple sprays. With the proper nozzle angle you will end up with a near no splatter weld with a swipe of a rag.
Can't see the one on the left very well. The one on the right needs more heat or less wire. Your travel speed looks fairly even. Keep in mind that if you are going to dress that weld you will remove all the splatter anyway.
i only have the high and low settings with the wire speed knob. switch to high and slow down the wire a little? With the one on the right, i did have the fying bacon sound and didn't have any sputtering of the weld. if I turn the speed down, will that start sputtering? just curious. thanks so much for the help.
Sounds like you don't have a lot of control on the machine. Is there any budget for a better machine? I have seen much worse technique. I think with a better machine you can do fine.
Can't believe all these answers!----Just use a thin welders blanket made of asbestos!! Next----Don't use flux core---use gas & .035 wire! (welding since 1951).
You can't buy asbestos blankets. His machine doesn't have a gas valve. And it sounds like it wouldn't push .035 wire. His only complaint is splatter. (welding since '69)
I use two welding blankets from Summit Racing. Both are 72 x 48". One is made with carbon fiber fabric ($90), the other is made out of fibergl*** cloth ($36). Not cheap in my opinion. The carbon fiber fabric is very soft and lightweight whereas the fibergl*** blanket is co**** and heavy. The welder's paper by 3M is handy because it comes in sticky back.
have bee a welde since 1982 i allwas have to protect area around ,with cloth soked in water. fire proof blankets. i foun out last year that if you take a swamp that you wash your car with an soak it in whater put it near where you are welding.start to weld and when paint or other things start to fire press swamp and it will cool area down, for minimal splatter nr 1 tig nr 2 stick nr 3 gas welding, this is becorse im not good at it nr 4 mig if you can move objekt so welding is going downwards not up or sidways it will minimal splatter as it will fall down to floor.this is only on mig welding ken sweden
