So I have a 49 Chev that is almost ready for paint and have had a tough time figuing out what to do with colour and design. Then I rememberd Mr. Watsons touch on the 1954 Chev of Bobs Schremps. As a tribute to Larry I was thinking the same style of scallop with suttle changes. Question is good idea or bad idea as I don't want to offened anyone. The car is going to be painted satin black not hot rod black and the scallops will be in either a very dark black cherry or just clear over the satin. What's your thoughts?
I already have a shiny car and to tell you the truth I am getting tired of cleaning and polishing just one for the road. My thoughts were to have one that can get a bit dusty and a few finger prints won't really matter...lol
I don't think it will offend anyone but I wouldn't call a suede car with essentially ghost flames Watson style. Maybe a Watson inspired design but he was all about rich vibrant shiney paint jobs.
Wow, that's a gorgeous Ford. If you're worried about dust I'd go for a lighter color, go for a full suede Watson inspired scallop job. Cleared maroon over satin black would look bad IMO though.
from a design stand point... it'll be hard to put two dark colors together and make them look good. It's better if you have some contrast between the two colors. If you have an example I'd love to see it!!
Don't beat up on me for this but I like the cadillac cowboy that Frank DeRosa built. I know that when Barry bought it he changed the pinstriping to tribal flames. I am not liking the flame job but I do like the visual apperance of the shiney and the satin as it is different. We are about ready to prime the car this week and nothing is cast in stone yet as far as paint goes. By the way we see lots of flame jobs up here but very few cars done with scallops.
The car is now painted and those fatt *** wide whites were installed last night along with some 56 caddy caps. I am still thinking on the Watson style scallops. We figured we would put the car back together first and then get the fine line out and start playing around. We still have about 6 weeks of winter accoring to that ground hog up here...lol
Ok so the paint work is done now just the striping and some shiny black bumpers. here are a few photos of the progress
We want to pinstripe the rear section of the car, rear deck lid and fenders. I was thinking of using a copper metalic to tie everything together but my buddy may have other ideas as he is the artist...lol I can not get a full side shot yet as the car is still in my small shop and I have no room to back up to take a full on photo.
As a big fan of the Derosa caddi you mentioned i am a bit disappointed that you didnt do your chevy similar to that. cause even if most people hate it i think the shiney "tribal" flames over the satin black looked good. The red stripes looked beter thou Your cars are beautiful anyway.
As I mentioned before for some reason we see very few cars up this way with scallops and lots with flames. We took the tribal flame and did our take on a tribal scallop sort of speak. I was all ready to shoot the shiney and got talked out of it at the last second. So the plan changed a bit and I got on the phone and orderd some kustom paint from TPC Global. As soon as it arived I shot the car without telling anyone. I like the copper pearl metalic it does shine a bit more than the satin black which makes the scallops pop in the light. Now it is just getting the right colour to do the pinstripes on the scallops, and finish off the *** end of the car with the same colour pinstriping on the deck lid and fenders above the lights.
Yes this is the same car Steve. The reason for change is change is good and I wanted to make it mine. I bought the car last summer and just wanted to do something different.
