That's the one I started with in 1976 or so. We adapted it to do the early electronic ignition cars, lo-tech but it worked. After you got to play with it enough, weird things like lazy lifters, intermittent wires could be easily picked up. Bob
If it works, and you learn to use it, that 'scope will be your best electrical friend. I once found a bent distributor shaft on a 6 cylinder Chevy when every Chevy dealer in the county had been unable to find the problem. Jon.
Does anyone remember how finicky TV sets used to be in the 60s and early 70s? The big Sun machines have a TV in them....it's fun trying to keep it working.
I had a guy that had some for sale back in the 80's (pre electronic ignition machines) at a garage sale. When he couldn't sell them he cut all the wires, and hoses, smashed all the gauges and tossed it in the town dump! I was only able to save the distributer machine bottom cabinet. I restored it a few years ago, and put my H.F. Sandblast cabinet on top! I'll post a pic later! It came out nice!
Then a guy offerd to sell me one cheap a few years ago, but he had a m***ive heart attack, and I don't know who got it!
Some time back I offered an early SUN distributor machine roll cabinet on the HAMB cl***ifieds for $2, yes two dollars. Got some PMs relating to condition shipping etc. but no takers. Regards, Ron
I could probably use them. Although, it may actually have them somewhere inside. This unit came with the cabinets full of all the equipment and a few other things. It also has the adapter that mounts to the top so you can put it on a rail and move it about that way instead of the floor rollers. It also came with a box of specs for cars. I have'nt actually had time to go through and look at it all. The guy was moving and would take offers as he needed it gone. I was kinda busy so I offered him $125 to have it delivered to me and I'm 1 1/2 hours away. Seemed fair to me.
That one should be worth the price if half the meters/gauges work. I've got the vacuum gauge off an ancient Allen tune up console that I used in Highschool in the sixties and it was old then. It was the only working meter on the set in the late 80's when I taught in the same school shop.
Going to pick one up next week. Almost p***ed because of the real estate it eats up but I'm a ****er for 'Free'. 3 or 4 newer models too that I will have to p*** on. I'll post up pics then.
It looks just like my Sun SS400 (1976 vintage). Works like a champ, and nice art too. Sure could use a manual for it though.
