Keystone Cl***ics... you know, the wheels from the 70's? I know they are remaking them now, they stopped for a long time... I didn't like them when EVERYONE had them on in the 70's, but now that they've been off the market for awhile... I kinda do! Anyway, a local bodyshop guy has a set of the ORIGINALS for sale, not repro's, four wheels in deteriorating boxes with a barely visible 1972 postmark on the top! Just wondering what you all thought, I'm sure I know the answer, they ain't steelies, they ain't red, they don't accept bullet/caps... I just thought I'd ask. Everytime I go to his shop - I hear them speaking to me . Actually, for the year of car I'm working on... a mag from the seventies would probably quite "traditional"... for the year. C'mon - I can take it - (close eyes, cover nuts, clinch teeth)
I never liked them, but if the price is right, and it is what you want...who cares what others think.
Hey, if that is what you like, and they are calling out to you, go for 'em. My son had a set on an early 80's Pontiac, looked nice. Like the song goes, "it's your thing, do what you wanta do". Just don't put them 'en on early pre 50's car, please.
wrap them in skinny whites and they will look nice on that car. cragars and keystones both look good wrapped in skinny whites looks good on late 60s early 70s era cars...ken....
I had Keystones on my 63 1/2 Gal in the '70s. They looked good. Those were older magnesium spoked units. Fortunatetly they were sold to a freind, so they're not far from home. Do the spoke sides in "cast blast" with some thin striped tires and they will look very mid-'60s.
i think they'll look good with the rake you've got, some BIG tires out back and a teardrop hood scoop...
One of my favorite wheels of all time! Not sure if they would be my first choice for your car, though - I would have to think about that. Maybe do a photo change with different wheels. What size are they? I would love to have them for one of my projects. ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" Giggle Cream - it makes dessert funny!
They are EARLIER than the 70's man ....... I had 'em on a 65 Vette and they had been around for a while then ..... I like them too 'cause they're DIFFERENT !!! .... run 'em if the price is right ..... jersey Skip
Those solid-face dished wheels from baby lincolns would look good, they look like those old solid halibrand race wheels, just put a lug cover cap sold by the street rodder cats, with a 3-point spinner on it, big tires on the rear, littles on the front. I've been looking for some, I can't fine them anywhere though.
To my knowledge, Keystone never made a wheel with a magnesium center. The wheel came out around early '65. The ad with the 'Vette is '65, the other was '66. Mutt
Photoshopped it... to the best of my ability anyway. Hmmmm... not horrible ? I'm thinkin' better than the chipped up Lincolns I'm running now
you might be thinking of Parnelli Jones wheels, from the mid-60's. I think Keystones were a rip-off of that design, the area between the spokes is a bit wider, and the spokes go straight into the rim, and didn't have that "pinched" area between them. They were aluminum faces, I think on a steel rim. I like them alot, but I don't think they fit disk brakes.
I think Crager SS's would look better. Two or three others would also be more to my liking, but they look good. Is Frank going to be riding with you often (or is that you)? ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" America - made in China!
Yeah... but you are the one who suggested a teardrop hoodscoop too weren't ya? HEE HEE ! Just kidding, the skirts CAN be taken off, according to my mood. I kinda like 'em at the moment. And the wheels I'm setting my sights on are look identical to these here... but these are new repro's - http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/cragar_wheels.asp If my body/paint buddy will throw them in on my tab, and if they have the right bolt pattern... I just might go for it!
hey man, i think they could look ok but you have to run them wiht the thin white wall. the blackwalls look horrid! even the ones you have on thier now would look a heap better with some narrow whites. I like the red roof (flake? candy?) but i think you could do better then the matt black body. Danny
That's the Crager SS's that I was talking about; a true cl***ic & they look good on any dark color as well as red (perfect for your car). What did the guy want for the Keystones? What size are they? Would love to have them on my pickup... ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver" If you can't take the heat, get out of the nuclear reactor.
I've only ever seen Keystones on muscle cars. Screams 70s. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it will make the car look like it was built 20-30 years ago at first glance (to me anyhow). Never seen them without the black paint like in that ad. Looks better without the black paint IMO.
I think they would be cool! Definitely run, at least skinny whites...better yet...RED LINES!! Loose the skirts unless you wanna run chrome smoothies or something similar. If you go with Keystone, or even Cragar SS, be sure the rest of the car matches as far as era/styling. If you decide not to ruin the Keystones, p.m. me with the price/size.
SOLD!!! DAMMMMIIITTT!!! The guy who was in line before me finally came in with the money.... AAARRRGGHHHH!!! Oh well, life goes on... (hope he puts them on a '69 Camaro, a red one)
Here's a set on my old goat. I painted the centers with a flat grey machinist's paint. Hard to see here, but they did have a cool g***er look with the paint.
Dear Guiseart, How much did they go for since I have four 15"X7" Keystone Kl***ics (5 spokes gun metal gray) bought NEW in 69 ?? P.S. They will fit disc brakes front and rear-at least on my 50 Fleetline 2 dr BBC. Tx Fly
YES I DO ! ,,,My Keystones still look great on my Grandfgather's 2dr 50 Fleetline(fastback) with a B&B SS396/close ratio muncie and 12 coats of Lacquer. Wheather in Chinatown or Death Valley it just seems to be a cl***ic "sleeper" Thanks Angel
