i know alot of chevy parts are interchangable. but i don't know if a s10 say '87-'93 bell houseing would bolt up to a '69 250 inline six. putting together a '40 chevy for my 71 year old nieghbor that he's had for a long time. i got the six. i'd like to have the 5 speed in it for him. anyway does the s10 bell mount to the '69 inline six block? JAN:)

The s-10 bell housing will not bolt up to the 250. However, the 250 has the common gm bolt pattern that is shared with a small block v8. The original bell housing for the 250, assuming that you have it, should work with the bolt pattern of the '83-'93 s-10 transmission. If you do not have the original 250 bell housing, then a standard small block bell housing will work. The only sticking point is that the s-10 transmission has a longer input shaft than that of the original 3 or 4 speed behind the 250 and small block. There are two options, either cut down the input shaft and bearing retainer (which there are plenty of articles on here how to do that) or make/buy a spacer.

True UNLESS the S-10 in question has a 4.3 V6.

Yeah, but the rule is not to talk about it. I'm doing the same thing, but I have to hit up other forums for OT questions.

using an s10 bellhousing behind a 250 is a long way from using an s10 clip or chassis. No different than using a 700R4 and theres a bajillion of them here.

Well if you wanna be technical a 700r4 is not hamb friendly since it came out in '82, along with a chevy 350 which came out in '67?...

  14. Question was answered in post #3. If it was a 4.3 V6, it will have the same bell pattern.

Move along people, nothing to see here....
