wow i hit the enter ****on to soon!!! i am building a driver and i know disc brakes are a bad thing to bring up here on the hamb but has anyone used these 84-87 corvette front caliper on 37-41 ford spindles. i think they look neat and kinda like airheart calipers . i figure if your going to used disc brakes they should look cool. anyone have brackets for these caliper to early ford 37-41 spindles ? any info would be great. drew

  3. I have never seen it done. But just because it has never been done does not mean it should not be done.

I'd guess if they are similar to those years of g-bodys or caprices it would be pretty easys. Check the mounting holes & center line and go from there. Hell go to napa & have them pull one of each and just look at them. Then get yo fab on.

Or check what wilwood has for those vettes & look for a ford kit that uses the same caliper & backtrack

  7. This caliper is very popular for use on '37 to '48 spindles in Australia. Many rod shops over here produce/copy each other's brackets for use with a late model ford disc/rotor. I'm not too sure on the details but some guys down here call them 'FE2 Commodore' calipers as I think that was the late 80's, early 90's Australian GM code for a particular brake package/option that used them. Try Rodtech in South Australia. ph +61 8 8262 3230.
Rod tech are probably on the 'net too.
I know they still make this stuff. Hope this helps a little.

  8. When the new 1985 Corvette came out there was a couple of large ads in the Oz automotive press announcing that PBR P/L from Australia had designed the new Corvette brakes...........I am not sure whether the Corvette rotors are the same but I remember reading somewhere that the calipers used on the Oz Holden Commodores from around this time did have the same calipers as the Corvette.........these have been used on quite a few Oz hotrods over the past 20yrs...........andyd

If you can't find anything off the shelf, I'm sure you make something pretty easy. I made these out of 3/8" plate to fit early Ford spindles with Wilwood calipers and spindle mount wheels.

I have a set of these brakes on all four corners of my 32 Tudor. I am switching to drums and will sell these if interested. PM me if any questions.

    I know this outfit:

    http://www.ecihotrodbrakes.com

used to do kits with that caliper.

Never used their products, know nothing about them otherwise.

Now, as for the bigger Z51/ZR1 two-piston 'pad guided' PBR, I've got a bunch of those things around...

PBR brake components have been very common on GM since then, as well as some Fords.

A lot of Ford's US product over the past thirty years used Varga calipers from Brazil.

i used the vette rotor and made a hanger from 3/8 aluminum .hang the caliper close to the rotor or your 15" rims wont fit

Wait a minute, wait a minute! you can take a 32 4dr sedan and make it into a awesome 32 5 window coupe, but you can't make bracket for disc brakes??:p

I like the 'look' of these, not too boring, but not super
'blingy' either. do you know the bolt hole C to C of these?

any one have good big pics of this set up. i think the 84-87 vette caliper may have another seperat bracket so i dont knoe if the caliper would just bolt to a bracket off the spindle or you wold need the original vette bracket and a home made bracket. i think this may be the difference in a floting caliper and a non floting caliper????? i dont know. need more info.

I have used these on all four wheels of my old blue '32 roadster since it was finished in 2000. There used to be company (I can't remember their name now) that made a kit to do this and that's what I used in front. It consisted of a very neat and simple 1/2" thick aluminum caliper bracket and a custom aluminum hub which used the 1984-87 calipers and rotors. In back I had a 1957 Ford 9" rear end that I fabricated an aluminum plate that served as a bearing retainer and caliper mount. I again used the 1984-87 Corvette front calipers (I didn't run an emergency brake). I redrilled the axles to use the Chevy 4 3/4" bolt pattern also. It was a pretty simple system and worked great. I used a small 7" power booster with a Chevette power master cylinder. The only trouble I had was getting enough free play in the brake rod so that the brakes wouldn't drag. A stiff return spring and cutting one of the crossmembers on the frame helped me get enough pedal travel to do this. I would be tempted to try it without a power booster if i did it again. After 54,000 miles I recently replaced all the pads and turned the rotors although there wasn't any wear, the pads were glazed and it didn't stop as well when it was new. The brakes worked very well and it stopped very quickly again after the rebuild. I think my biggest worry was stopping faster than the car behind me. I found that new parts were very cheap now because the manufacturers/warehouses are clearing out their inventory due to the dwindling numbers of those Corvettes. Unfortunately I have sold my roadster and can't supply any close-up pics of it now.

Here's the best pics I have right now.
