Crowded! Crowded! Crowded! I'm bummed. Very hard for me to get time off, but I managed it and a group of us drove an hour and a half to get there and we hardly were able to see anything! So crowded you were walking shoulder to shoulder and front to back with people. If they stopped to look at something, you had to stop as well because there was no place to go. There were areas between the vendors and cars that only one person at a time could p*** thru. Everyone standing there like cattle going to slaughter. When I finally got into position to admire a car, you were asked to move so they could take a picture. Not to mention all the strollers and electric carts etc and it was just nuts! This advent was advertised like crazy on TV so I guess this advent is now just a big money making commercial venture with profit as the sole purpose. Tried getting something to eat and a beer and it took 45 minutes and the bbq sandwich was cold! There was a lot of great things to so see and admire. The best of the best, but really didn't get to see much as we had enough and left after a couple of hours and can't envision going back again.

Considering that the GNRS is probably the queen of shows, I would have taken it in stride or gotten there very early. The Houston Autorama can get like that and I'm sure it's nothing like the GNRS. Sometimes you just have to **** it up. No need to stop going. Just, maybe, plan better.

I go on Fri. for the purpose taking pics for HotRodHotLine.Com and for the HAMB. I would love to go Sat. but the crowds are to big for taking any photos. Sat. is the best and you just have to go with the punches if you want to see the best show around. Bite the bullet and enjoy, or you can sit home and look at the photos we submit for you, me I would rather go

go at dinner time or sunday just before it closes

  8. I understand that people need to bring their kids in order to go, but I don't think nothing is wrong with a no stroller/ indoors policy. My wife goes to a huge boutique show in Lubbock every winter and it's all moms and they have a no stroller policy to help with congestion.
I wouldn't quit going man, like someone else said, just plan better if you can. I'm going the last three hours on Sunday. Hopefully it's not too busy.

I went yesterday, Friday and it was great! Of course, no cars outside but no crowds either. From my past experience, Friday is best (other than Thursday move in day) , Sunday is second and Saturday is WAY last.

I havent missed a show in 30 years and I have been going on Fridays as long as I remember, ....... until today. Had to work yesterday, so I had no choice. I feel your pain. I love the guy who spends five minutes trying to get his $50 digital camera to focus and gets peturbed when you finally walk in front of him. I quit taking photos, thanks to the professionals on the HAMB, there are always great photos to see and I much appreciate it too. Still a great show and we were fortunate the wind didnt blow down there like it did up here in Ventura:)

WOW, I can't believe that guys on here would ***** that the Best Car Show on the Planet is too popular. I took a couple of hundred pictures today and didn't have any issues with it being "Too Crowded" nor did I ever ask or make anyone wait for me to take a picture. Yes, it was more crowded than yesterday, but still was fine with me.
The Suede Palace is definitely the more crowded, but that's because all the scenesters have to stand around to be seen and act cool. Plus the bands, pin up girl comp etc. are designed the have people just stand around and not move along. But then a large percentage of the people in there are there to see the cars anyway.
I do agree with the overuseage of strollers, especially those double wides, but really
Man, i got to think there are much bigger things to rant about then a car show ....

  13. I realize admission is high, but I always approach it as a 2 day show. Drive down (6 hours) on Friday and do the indoor stuff, then spend Saturday doing the outdoor stuff, driving back on Sunday. The caliber and variety never disappoints. At no other show are vendors so helpful, either.

I only do it every other year, as I am a long time Turlock swap meet faithful...

The Scenesters LOL I dig that

Have to say yes it was more crowded than last year, I got there when the gates opened and stayed till about 3 and I got to see every car and take pictures of everything. I woke up at 5 am to get the flight in and raced around to make sure I got my flight out. It was an awesome day in So cal and for the most part every one I chatted with was having a great time. I even had enought time to roll through the NHRA and talk to a few vendors. Kids with strollers, well its a if you have kids you get it and if you dont then you dont :) I always hated kids on airplains till I had kids on airplaines, now I just feel sorry for people with kids on airplaines :)

If you are lucky enough to have made it to the GNRS you are fortunate to have seen some of the best talent and creativity this hobby has to offer. Many of us that couldn't be there this weekend sure wouldn't mind putting up with all those inconveniences just for the experience.

I know the feeling,Marv. I started going on Sundays, and it seems that the "rush" is over by then. But the last few years it's been raining, so maybe that the weather is nice, Sunday could be as bad. I seem to be getting tired of the "look at me,too" crowds at lots of events these days. Hot Rod Stuff is the "New Cool" for some, but hopeflly, it'll even out. Haven't seen you much--hope things are good!

Your totally right. Next year they should ban strollers, electric scooters and not do any advertising. That will be great, and while we're at it let's get rid of all the food and beer as well.

Right on. People ***** about not enough people are going to shows, there not spending the money. Get the young kids involved, take em to a car show. People dont respect the hobby, too many tuners and rat rods. Now your *****in' cause too many people went to the show, and took their kids, and only hard core hot rodders should go. Give me a break, If only the hard core went the hobby would go broke, no shows, or aftermarket. Are guys thinking before they post this ****?

I think if they moved all the vendors outside it would solve a lot of problems. But Im not complaining one bit, it was a great show this year, as it has been all prior years. I will be there again next year, crowds, strollers and all.....

I went with my 5 year old son for his birthday yesterday and wasn't that crowded at all, pretty nice actually.

Then after I ordered (1) burger and (1) hotdog meal plus swapped a bottle of water instead of the soda for the kid (extra of course), I realized why the line was short - 27 m'f'n dollars - and about the worst ****py burger I've had in a long time.

Whatever, typical show rip off food. But the show was great.

All this *****ing about crowds, sounds like you were in Sam's Club. Same **** there only they don't have any cars on display.

Also realize that the show promoters have NOTHING to do with food prices. That is controlled by the prices that the fair commission charges the vendors to be there and then the amount the food vendors think they can get away with. Do not blame the show people for this!
By the way, we walked next door to the Sheraton and had a very nice lunch, sat down at a real table with a very nice waitress and had a great lunch - for less money!!!

I went with 2 buddies in 2010 for the whole weekend and it was killer. Friday evening there was nobody there. You could see all the cars up close and personal. Easy getting food all weekend. I just waited until mid morning and mid afternoon to eat.
Saturday was a beautiful day to just stay outside and look at the cars. Also it was never too crowded in the Suede Palace. Sunday was a good day to tour the museum. No crowds there.

We got to talk with Tommy Ivo and Billy Gibbons. Cool.......

By 6pm sat. night the crowds with their kids had left,so it was easy walking again. I got to meet some great people just walking around.

I will be back again real soon......

Oh yeah, and any big indoor show on the circuit is going to be crazy crowded. GNRS is no different. I quit going to the Boston World of Wheels for the same reason because I can only go on Sunday. But I'll be back to that one real soon, too.

What an incredibly stupid comment. It's called "business." Maybe someday, UNICEF will get into the car show business. Until then, the GNRS is the place to be. I'm just pissed that I couldn't get away this year to spend close to $1000 on airfare, rental car, hotels, and admissions to be there. If you're there, STFU and quit your *****ing.

Yuppers, in spades, Here we check the computer every couple hours hoping to see a new batch of photos of the event and they ***** because they were actually there and there were a lot of other people there.

Best for low crowd numbers is no doubt move in day and then when the show first opens on Friday. But that would be any indoor show in the country because Saturday is the usually the big day.

At least it doesn't look like they had a "pro r***ler" signing autographs with a three wide line of mouth breathing single branch family tree members waiting for autographs and blocking any looking at the cars or vendors booths in a whole section of the show like happened several years at Portland. Those individuals would pay for the ticket, stand in line for fours to get an "autographed" poster for five bucks, pee their pants in excitement from seeing the masked something and then head for the door while never looking at a car in the show.
