I have been on alot of sites looking at some disc. brake kits and the 2 kits i am asking abou are the wilwood front brake kit and the chevy kit , both these kits will fit my 41 ford fenderless truck with 48 ford spindles.

I know that the wilwood kit is 600.00 and up and the chevy kit is around 300.00 , i don't care about price just what would work better

Now what i want to know is the chevy brake kit stop as good as the wilwood kit , this is for street use and alittle 1/4 mile track use .

I would like to hear from poeple that have used one or the other or both kits .

The reason i am asking is i will be ordering a kit early this week

And i know some of you swear by drum brakes have the same respect for me please i swear by disc. brakes .

Thanks for any and all info on this topic

im pretty sure with decent pads, either will work well. also, im pretty sure with a good stomp on vacuum brakes, you can lock the front brakes up on your truck with either as well.

The Wildwood is "prettier" but both work well.

I swear by discs myself. Something to consider is if you are out in the middle of Nowheresville and you need pads or a rotor, can you find parts locally for the Wilwood setup? You probably could for the Chevy setup.

  6. I used a chevy disc setup from Speedway on my model A coupe and was happy with the brakes. I'm going the same setup on my new project also.

Now thats something to think about , very good point i will go with the chevy setup .

does anyone know if the chevy rotors are a direct fit to the 48 spindles or are the rotors that you get in the speedway kit custom fit

Sorry for all the questions :eek:

I have the Speedway Chevy kit and it stops my car on a dime. The kit comes with a bearing race that allows the rotors to fit the early spindles.

Good stuff comes from Scarebird. See if he's got something for you.

Ooops, I totally read the year of your spindles wrong. I don't think that Scarbird has anything. The Speedway setup is fine.

No problem , thanks for the info anyway its good to have.

I drove to Lucky 7 hot rods today and picked up some parts to put my 48 ford front end together , i went with the spring behind and the chevy brake kit that fits the 48 spindles .
