Hey yall, I ran into a technical problem with the Olds (1958 Dynamic) in light of trying to figure out how to run the exhaust. The driver side manifold outlet is further forward and the down pipe runs underneath toward the front of the engine and across to the p***enger side manifold where it goes into a single pipe. Clearance is fairly tight on the driver side hence the starter, steering box and master cylinder are in close quarters of one another. Kinda makes me wonder if it is at all possible to route the exhaust down that side of the car. The game plan is to run a set of side pipes so just as long as I can get the exhaust down from the engine compartment on that side I'll be home free. Is there a different driver side manifold casting or a set of headers that will get me to where I need? I currently have the front clip off doing some body work and things are a little easier to get to so I figured this is as good a time as any to do this. Anybody ever tinker with one of these cars that have duals? Thanks
Hello, I am having same trouble with my '57 super 88. I'm going to attempt to build my own headers. Found cnc cut header flang on ebay for $50. I also have seen a lower bell housing that moves the starter from driver to p***enger side. If you can find one, they have been going for around $300-400. My car already has duals on it that the previous owner had put on. It looks like they just cut it at the crossover then ran duals back. Don't know if any of this helps. good luck.
Thanks Fatman, The starter relocation sure looks like its going to be a must. I spoke with an individual earlier today that said its possible to run without relocating anything with the right headers but it's a pain in the ***..... I keep looking at this thing and I'm not sure how that would work... That would be a VERY tight squeeze. Keep me posted on your build and send me some specs on what you did if you get it to work. Also in the mean time do you have any pictures of where exactly they cut the pipe and how they routed it? Thanks man
