I got to go to the dinner at the NHRA (thanks to Lucky) and it was great to see Alex Xzidias and hear some of the storys of the early days on the lakes and the streamliner.. Greg Sharp is awesome at talking about the history of the car.. Dan Webb did an amazing job on the car its prett incredible... Isky, Winfield, Edelbrock Tony Thacker handed out these cool clocks and a die cast of the stream liner to Alex, Dan and Pete Chiporis Ruler. The Unvailing Gene Approved Isky was all over it!! haha he even broke out a busniess car and fitting in between the gaps where the metal met.. Ed and Vic Good food too!!!!
I met Alex Xydias at Pebble last year and what a nice guy he is. Talk about being there through it all, that guy is something. Lots of history in that room.
Ha!!! I would say that to be true only if I found a 32 survivor in a barn and bought it for 1000 bucks.. most of the time i'm not so lucky..hahahaha Speaking of Lucky.. again thanks to Lucky Burton for letting me be his +1
Dude! That's awesome! Next time you should bring your camera... or at least upgrade to a IPhone 4s with 8 meg camera, or something. Thanks for sharing! Sam
Wow that would have been a dream come true!!! Those Diecast streamliners are so rad, I want one!!! PS, the Streamliner itself is on my list of things to see. It's fucking breathtaking!!!
Yeah... My Iphone 4 wasn't working so hot.. I think it was all the flash bulbs and stuff was happning so fast I didn't let it focus... plus the zoom sucks too.. But your welcome to buy me one
I was fortunate to get an invitation to the dinner last night. It was neat to hear Alex talk about starting the shop and meeting the two guys that set the course for his career in the car business in just the first couple of days; those two being Dean Batchelor and what turned out to be his first employee (can't remember his name right now). I was surprised to see how emotional he got. You could tell how special this night was for him seeing the recreation of the streamliner.
Hey EVEL, was that ol' Greg Sharp at the podium?---Does he still have the job as "curator" at the NHRA museum?
Oh my god, what a powerful room full of legends. I am surprised the building didn't levitate with this power center. Really cool to see all the guys having an obvious blast. Photos are priceless and much appreciated. ~sololobo~
Thanks it was a great night. I'll post some pictures soon. And next stop for the liner is Detroit in a few weeks...
